Macrium fails to create a volume snapshot

A few days ago I installed Macrium Home V6 on four Win10 PCs (three Dell Desktops and a Dell laptop). Installs went well and I was able to create full and differential backups. Since Macrium was functioning correctly, I decided to uninstall Acronis True Image 2015 from all four PCs using the Acronis Cleanup Tool. After doing that I found that I can no longer make backups on any of them with Macrium unless I boot from a rescue USB. I suspect that the Acronis Cleanup Tool damaged the Volume Shadow Copy Service or possibly some other service(s) and or settings. Here is the error information that I get from the Macrium log, its the same on all 4 PCs.

    Starting Image - Friday, January 27, 2017 17:41:35

    - Error text: VSS_E_BAD_STATE
Gathering Windows Events - Please Wait
Backup aborted! - Failed To Create Volume Snapshot. Result Code: 0x80042306

This is the error message that is generated by Windows VSS:
    Date 1/27/2017 6:11:15 PM
    Type Error
    Event 12289
    Source VSS

Operation: Processing EndPrepareSnapshotsContext: Execution Context: System Provider

I've tried the following but no joy:
    Repairing the Macrium program,
Running the "Fix VSS Problems" app within Macrium,
    SFC, no errors,
Checking the Volume Shadow Copy service, it is running and set to Automatic as MS recommends.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

UPDATE 1: I tried to create a system restore point but it just ran for about 15 minutes without a result. Next I tried to stop and restart the Volume Shadow Copy service but got "Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion"

UPDATE 2: Since I could no longer create restore points. I decided to load an image that I created (on all 4 PCs) right before I used the Acronis Cleanup Tool. The good news it that I have VSS working correctly but the bad news is that I have Acronis 2015 back on my system. Does anyone know how to remove Acronis without crippling VSS? Maybe just a simple uninstall without using the Cleanup Tool, any thoughts?

Great you're using imaging. Just wondering why you've not uninstalled Acronis conventionally?

What you could try if you're concerned about cleaning remnants is using either
    Revo uninstaller
    or
    Geek uninstaller
to initiate the uninstall then run a scan for leftovers. At that point you have the choice of what to remove or not from what is displayed.

Old habit of mine, I will never install AV, Firewall or imaging software before I have first uninstalled software I am replacing. In your case if Macrium is already installed, uninstall it first, then Acronis, reboot and reinstall Macrium.

If Macrium has not been installed yet, uninstall Acronis and reboot, install Macrium.

    It just might work.

Yes, I'm going to uninstall Acronis conventionally and then test to be sure it hasn't damaged Macrium or system restore. I definitely won't be using the Acronis Cleanup Tool. Thanks.

Thanks dalchina and Kari for your advice. Per your combined wisdom, I uninstalled Macrium and then Acronis using each programs uninstallers. I did not use the Acronis Cleanup Tool, I believe that its much too aggressive or possibly it was coded to work only with Acronis and damaged Macrium since it was installed at the time of use. In any event, Acronis is gone and Macrium is installed and working as it should. I also created new restore points at each step of the way as a test and that is working correctly as well.

Yet another case of a self inflicted gunshot wound due to not thinking carefully through the process. Fortunately good backups and your combined sound advice saved the day in spite of my best efforts to do otherwise!

Good to know you got it resolved.

Knowing that you are a new Macrium convert, have you seen this post in Macrium Reflect tutorial thread?

New features coming, personally I'm mostly interested in viBoot integration When you have tested viBoot and used it a bit and seen what it offers, you simply fall in love with it

Macrium viBoot will be integrated in Macrium Reflect in v7.
