Is it okay to rename macrium backup files

I have renamed a macrium from its long chain of letters and numbers to simply D backup 010417.
I read in another posting here that macrium sometimes will not restore a backup file that has been renamed.

I'm trying to determine if this is in fact true. Has anyone found this to be true?

Why not bring up Macrium Reflect and see if it can find the backup file?

I've used Macrium Reflect to Clone a drive but not the backup feature but some years ago [think 25] when using a Colorado tape backup there was a Catalog file stored on the HDD that relied upon the files on the tape staying the same. If the HDD was unusable the bootable floppy disk that the tape program used to restore contained that catalog or could rebuild it from the tape. Changing file names outside the backup program can indeed cause problems.

Should not cause any problem. Been there, done that.

However, for future backup, you could also name the file before makeing backup image. see scrren shot:

Berton, one main problem can be caused by letting MR keep a log of backups and then changing a backup image's file name.
If one wants to re-name a backup image file after it's made, delete the old reference from MR's backup log.
TopGunDCP's idea is best -- name the backup image file just before clicking next & finish buttons.

Yeah, that backup log could be the same as what the old Colorado program called the Catalog.
