I have just used a System Image from 25th February 2017, that was taken immediately after the installation of Windows 10 v1607 Home 32 bit had concluded. It has no settings changes or downloads of applications to cloud the issue. Very native.

Today 28th February 2017, I installed the image and two restore points were created and a restore to one of them was successful.

So: it is either a Windows Update or an application that is breaking the restore operation. It isn't the Media Creation Tool or the DVD it was saved on.

    Good hunting from SimonFastEddy
Looks like you and SoFine409 are narrowing down the time frame. I hope the fix comes soon. :)

I just went to C:\Program Files\Windows Apps and took a look at the Advanced Security Permissions and discovered that the permissions for my user account is corrupted:

I have 2 "users" category (both named users), one of them was like you, I deleted it.

More on probable cause....(See my earlier reply to JSheridan ) Glad to met you...

Working from my healthy System Image which I took on 25 February 2017, I managed to get the restore to work successfully. BUT I also managed to get it to break. I interrupted the screen "Configuring Windows Don't turn your PC off" and did it by powering off on the computer box. Now the system restore shows the characteristic AppxStaging error and no restore point will return the functionality.

It is a Microsoft issue then! Product recall time. I have only just discussed this with a W10 Home (Paid for flash drive media) ...His also is broken. £100 wasted then. Ask for your money back everyone.

Good hunting....in a creek up to our necks in shit without a canoe but with a broken paddle.

    Yes it is.
I also ran the Apps diagnostic tool for Win 10 and it told me that the Windows store cache may be damaged. I suppose this is related.

It is User profiles .... I use SyncBackFree to mirror files across three PCs, one of which has the AppxStaging disease. You will find that the "Share With" of files will fail and you will be bogged down in a fruitless chase in permissions. I was on it all last night and today. I tried all the solutions for renaming the User folder including the registry...

All fail. If you rename the User profile with registry you will be Signed in to a temporary account which appears in Users as TEMP . Even when you manipulate the User folder to look like it should work it doesn't....corrupted file.

The black screen after starting from Shutdown, lasting 6 to 8 minutes was a user profile issue; I sorted that out but thisissue remained. Only remedy is to use external HDD and build and test and save images. I have spent two months on this. No way of doing a ".old " name change.

So how did Microsoft get this product past Quality Control then? Even better hunting abticipated....

Glivo , I was referring to the people who are having trouble renaming when they're putting the full path for both when it doesn't take the full path for the rename part ie.
    Code:
    "c:\program files\windowsapps" windowsappsold
    but thank you though

I get that "windows store cache maybe corrupt/damaged". Actually had it for awhile and I've tried a few of the fixes for it but, nothing has worked. My store works fine thou, so I'm not sure the two are related.

Are you guys getting that error on the main "c:\Program Files\WindowsApps" folder and/or multiple folders/files?
