when I go into the windowsapps folder and check permissions its given to owner oblahdee . (skeetz27@xxxx.com) and not Administrators...but when I look at the check box Administrators acct has check marks for everything (not special perm) and oblahdee acct has nothing checked and my user acct has read & execute-list folder contents and read checked that doesn't look right ?

EDIT: just went back and looked oblahdee has special permissions checked but greyed out didn't
see it at 1st its the last on the list

    skeetz,
I don't know why it isn't working for you. I did it again this morning with my simplified code to test it and it worked again for me. Again doing over 30,000 files and allowing me to delete the directory.

The thing is skeetz, that it may all be a complete waste of time anyway. Check out my latest post on this forum. Here is the link: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...a83f4ac?page=7
I think System Restore is just broken anyway.

I also encountered the result "The directory is not empty" when attempting to delete the WindowsApps file using the rd command. Ugh. :) Thanks for sharing all the information in this post. I'm truly grateful.

I've also come to the conclusion that System Restore is just broken and I've started using other means for back-ups. Hopefully MicroSoft will fix it soon but I'm not holding my breath. :)

    Hi All
Came here last night after trying to restore to 4 different 'Restore points'. All 4 date/times I had in the program, had errors as noted in this thread.
The last time I used 'System Restore' was 12/16/16 when I restored to 12/13/16 and the system preformed as advertised!
I wonder if ms even knows about this!
I have not looked at the other devices we have here, but Pro is 'broken' The problem being that if the device is working fine...how would you know that 'restore' is broken!...As we have several devices (Pro & Home 64bit) I will monitor this thread carefully. I did think about installing an image I captured on the 12th of February, but that appears to be a waste of time. I upgraded a few devices to Pro, including this one I am using now, last week. Does anyone know which software corrupted the system and when it was released by ms?
    Thanks

I don't know when mine quit working. Broken on both Home and Pro. Maybe it was some kind of Apps update that broke it?

JSeridan from SimonFastEddy ...... with kind regards

Mine broken as well ....Windows 10 Home 32 bit Custom installation from Media Creation Tool.

Question: Is it broken on all the versions Home, Pro; 32 and 64 bit; free MCT and paid?

This is a serious issue in spades. I sorted Cortana breaking several weeks ago with the help of a software firm. Lots to find out.

I have been stuck with re-installations every night since the New Year. Also sfc scannow and DISM don't resolve the issue.

Ask around please. I need to understand the etiology. Commercial intetest...you get nothing for free.

    Thank you everybody

Hi, I renamed the WindowsApps folder like that :

    cgdsatx said:
    boot to SAFE MODE
make sure theres a space between /d y
    or put
    attrib "c:\program files\windowsapps" -h
    then
    takeown /f "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps" /r /d y
AND no space in Windowsapps on ANY commands AND put your username not administrators
icacls "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps" /grant YOURUSERNAME:F /t (whatever you login to safe mode with)
    rename "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps" WindowsAppsold
and to rename you may have to ,if you didn't before
    attrib "c:\program files\windowsapps" -h
    I had to change
    Code:
    takeown /f "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps" /r /d y

    to
    Code:
    takeown /f "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps" /r /d o
    and
    Code:
    icacls "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps" /grant YOURUSERNAME:F /t
    to
    Code:
icacls "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps" /grant Administrateur:F /t (whatever you login to safe mode with)
    and
    Code:
    icacls "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps" /grant Adminsitrateurs:F /t
because i'm on a french pc.
I had also to do the attrib things to make it work.

Then i tried to restore (on a save I did after the rename, to test) and got this :
System Restore fails: AppxStaging %ProgramFiles%\WindowsApp 0x80070091-2251a3257c9b4d0494bdffbd49cb6058-1-.png

    In english:

    Code:
Restore has not be done. Nothing has been modified.
    Details:
The system restore could not retrieve the original copy of the directory from the restore point.
    Source: %ProgramFiles%\WindowsApps
    Destination: AppxStaging
The restore point was damaged or removed during the restore
I have no idea what I should do, any help woul'd be appreciated.
