I don't believe that is the case at all, I have used Macrium for a long time now, and it has never given me any problems, and has NO effect on Windows Restore Points. But ....you can always remove Macrium Reflect, and then see if your restore points magically work... My guess it is one of those long list of app's you do have installed, or a deleted app, that is still leaving parts of itself on your computer. But.....I'm sure simrick will help you find your problem. She is VERY good at this. :)
I am going to continue to disagree: All of the Macrium failure logs point to VSS, and one of the VSS help files I found (URL not remembered) specifically stated that VSS will not work if you have too many Restore Points. That information, assuming that it is correct, of course, says to me that there is definite connection between VSS and Restore Point Therefore, I can only conclude that the fact that Restore Point does not work on my computer, means that VSS is not working, at least not correctly, and that, in turn, is why Macrium also does not work.

Removing Macrium did not fix Restore Point.

I didn't think it would fix your Restore Point issue. As Your problem seems to be caused by something else, and not Macrium.
But David and simrick have many hours on here trying to solve your issue, and I don't want to butt in. You have 2 VERY good folks helping you.
If your computer was in front of me, I would be removing a lot of the bloat ware you have installed for starters. No Offense intended at all. For instance, unless your computer is under 1 year old, you don't really need all those Dell apps installed. But I also don't think your Dell apps are your problem, just un-needed apps.
You might want to show David and simrick your current version of Windows 10, think they asked. Not sure.
Just open your Command Prompt Admin, and type Winver, then post the pic for them. Make sure it does not show any personal information, IE your email address.
Take care, and hope you get your system running fine soon. :) Mike.

Once again, all programs, except for updates, were present before the problem(s) started, so it is rather unlikely that they are causing anything untoward, especially as many of them have not even been used for some time. And, yes, the computer was new in February, 2016, which is why I have kept the Dell programs; in addition, the Dell warranty is good for a total of four years.

Windows 10 Home version 1607, as posted more than once.

As for taking care, well, anyone who has any to spare and would email it to me, I'd be glad to accept it. That stated, I have no doubt whatsoever that the people who are giving me so much of their time are both expert and generous.

1607 is just the Version# That is not showing the BUILD # which will show if you have the latest updates installed. :)

    Hi.
Sorry for the delay responding. Here's what I would do next, if it were my system. (I know this is quite a lot of work...and I know all this stuff was on the system when Macrium was working properly, but the Anniversary Update was a major kick, and things were broken, so I am approaching this situation the same as an upgrade install - like W7 to W10, where existing apps like AV broke stuff during an upgrade, but worked well in a clean install situation. I hope that makes sense.)

Run CHKDSK on C: Perform in read-only mode, just to see if Windows says it needs to fix anything.

    RE: Installed Programs

    Uninstall
Dell Data Vault 17-Nov-15 46.4 MB
(actually, I would remove ALL the Dell bloatware, unless there is one you need specifically. Most of it can be re-downloaded from Dell Support web site at any time.) I have seen Data Vault causing problems in the past on one of my systems in particular.

    Genie Backup Manager Genie9 04-Aug-16 92.3 MB 9.0

WD SmartWare Western Digital Technologies, Inc. 30-Aug-16 72.6 MB 2.4.16.16 (backup software)

Avast Free Antivirus AVAST Software 30-Aug-16 530 MB 12.3.2280
(through Program and Features, then boot into safe mode and run avastclear)
Avast Uninstall Utility | Download aswClear for Avast Removal

COMODO Firewall COMODO Security Solutions Inc. 02-Mar-16 224 MB 8.2.0.4792

    TrueCrypt TrueCrypt Foundation 04-Aug-16 7.2
(defunct - do not use - security concern)

RE: Process Lasso Bitsum 25-Aug-16 28.2 MB 8.9.8.42
Not familiar with this one. Please just make sure that it doesn't stop any Macrium/VSS processes.

    ----------------------------
(Okay so the above may be a bit overkill, but it's necessary, and if this resolves the problem, we can add them back one by one, to see if the problem returns...and it may not return either, if it even does resolve...)
    ----------------------------

Reboot with Fast Startup turned OFF.

Verify Security Center is functioning properly.
Verify Windows Defender is ON and up-to-date.
    Verify Windows Firewall in ON.

Run Ccleaner on the registry, checking everything except Help Files. Run it repeatedly, until it finds nothing.

Reboot again with Fast Startup still OFF.

Run CHKDSK again on C. Perform in read-only mode, just to see if Windows says it needs to fix anything.

Run sfc /scannow; verify the result is "no integrity violations found". If not, run it at least three times, with reboots in-between.

Run ADWCleaner SCAN. If it finds anything, post the log.

    Uninstall Macrium.

    Reboot.

Try deleting all restore points via Command Prompt:
System Restore Points - Delete in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums
    See Option #3

    Reboot.

    Reinstall Macrium.

Open System Protection and see if System Restore is ON for C, and if so, try to create a restore point for C. If it creates one, open Ccleaner and verify it shows up.
EDIT: Please make sure you have something like 20% space designated as available for the restore points!

If successful, try a NEW TEST Macrium instruction set for drive C.

    ------------
EDIT #2: If all this is unsuccessful, I would like you to try a clean boot and then try a NEW TEST Macrium instruction set for drive C.
All of this exercise should have the WD drive physically disconnected.

    -----------
If all this is unsuccessful, and @DavidY is willing to look into the VSSTrace program, that could be next, or we could try a repair install with an in-place upgrade next.

I had a similar issue with Reflect. The image file was corrupt. So I went to where that image was stored and deleted it. Then did a fresh backup, and it's working now.

Solved Macrium Relect, constant errors - Windows 10 Forums

If your restore points are messed up, you can use CCleaner and delete them. Once everything's working again, you can make a fresh restore point. I created a shortcut in my Start Menu for System Restore. This is what it is: %windir%\System32\SystemPropertiesProtection.exe

    Hi Odos270.
I don't think it's a case of a corrupt image, as we have done new test instructions/new image and the failure persists. The failure we're seeing here is a Windows VSS error. The fact that Macrium will successfully image the WINRETOOLS partition tells me that this is something specific to the existing OS setup the way it is now. It also successfully images the drive while in the Recovery Environment.
If I remember correctly, Ccleaner did not show any restore points at all for the OP.

As I need to charge you for additional information, I will send you my bill sometime last month.

    Meanwhile:

    1. OS Build is 14393.82.

    2. KB3176934 and KB3176939 were installed 24August2016.

    3. I just noticed that I started this thread one week ago, which leads me to wonder if there is/are any known problems with these two updates, especially anything that might have affected Restore Point and/or Macrium. Ought I to delete the two updates to see if that helps?

Fudge, I just remembered that I found three days of Macrium backup failures when I started this thread, which means that the problem, whatever caused it, must have started before the two updates were installed.

Thanks - that is the most current, I believe.

I had a look at what those two updates covered, and they were mostly fixes for things; I didn't really see anything that directly related to what we're dealing with, but was hoping David's keen eye might spot something. I thought we had looked at uninstalling them a while back, but can't remember if we did it or not. At this point, since I am not aware of "Macrium/backup problems" relating to these two updates, I would venture to guess that leaving them installed for the exercise I posted above should be fine. :)
