OK simrick, I've uninstalled O2K, but one reason I hesitated is that it Enterpirse 2007 works differently in Excel and especially in Access, and I'm really lousy at VB. We'll see how this works. OTOH, I still have an old computer running XP and perhaps I could get by with O2K on it.

I shorten the display time to 5 sec. before I saw your message and that works fine. Just curious, when Win10 installed wasn't it a clean install? How will I get the installation to do so?

A simple "copy-type" backup would be fine. How are you doing your backups? Using WD software? Is it a simple copy operation? In other words, if you went into the WD backup, can you open files directly from it? -i.e. the *.doc files actually show as *.doc files and they will open from the backup location? The reason I ask, is because some backup software will compress the backed-up files, and so they must be "restored" before they are usable. If it is a simple copy function, then they can be copied from your WD drive back to the Gomer account, to the proper locations.

Only data, not programs, if that's what you mean. And, I don't want to see a "restore" operation to put them back into Gomer - I would like to see a simple "copy" operation, to be sure the "Cookies" problem is not carried over.

Browsers are different; I'll need to know which you use.

And you told me to delete AVG, so I am functioning on Defender, but you said that it is not enough. Since another AV program will shut off Defender, what would make it "enough"?
Defender should be good, if you add Malwarebytes Antimalware (Free or paid - paid is better, of course), SuperAntiSpyware (Free), and Malwarebytes AntiExploit (Free). This gives you a more layered approach.

Anyway take your dog for a long walk or your cat. My cat Cricket is sleeping just below my cursor, making it hard to see the bottom of this screen. (If necessary I move it to the other monitor, but there she sees it and wants to catch the cursor. She does that with birds on tv too, which is why she has never been allowed outside. Sneaky and those long claws make her a very good hunter.)
OK, I know I'm just blabbering on wasting your time. Hugs, R- (Oh, I hug everyone but is that allowed on this website? [I'm so old that PC means Prince Charming.])
That's funny about your cat! I think hugs are permitted.

The W10 was an upgraded W7 installation, right? You retained all your programs and data when you upgraded. So, *no*, that is not a clean install, that is an upgrade install. And, an upgrade install is where carryover baggage can sometimes muddy up the waters. A clean install would completely wipe your hard drive and install fresh.

Additionally, a repair install can remedy many problems evident on an upgrade, and it's something we could try once you have everything - and I mean everything - backed up. (I think I mentioned a repair install a page or two ago.)

Monday is a busy day for me. I will check in when I can.

That's a good thing. But, where did you see Cookie? In the Gomer account somewhere? Screenshot - I copied that same file to the three Gomer folders Desktop, Cookies, Documents, and then went to Gomer account and checked the paths which you can see in the properties box in this image. None were "useraccount\Cookies\Desktop" type

Please specify what programs in particular and what settings and I will see what I can do.
One that is opening strangely right now in my account since I uninstalled Office 2000 is the Enterprise 2007. A box comes up saying please be patient while Enterprise 2007 is loaded or installed. Before, Excel or Word just opened.

The Start menu should already be the same for all accounts on the system. It resides here:
    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
Does this work for all MS programs - both Microsoft and Windows?

Yes, I just went to the WD Passport software and retrieved that Mushroom file and it opened fine from the Retrieved folder.

Understood, I just have the Passport file retrieved to Gomer. Or do I manually copy them as I did the Mushroom file?

Please explain how you handle email: Do you get it online, using a browser? Do you use an email client? If an email client, which one, and is it setup as POP3 or IMAP?
I seldom go online to check email with a browser, Gmail seems to be the only one using POP3 while all the rest are IMAP.
Browsers are different; I'll need to know which you use.
I use Firefox, Thunderbird for my mail aggregator (you call it client? Terrible geekspeak and abuse of English. I have clients who are people!), some Google products - Chrome (for some things but mostly FFx), Earth, Apple products - Picasa, iTunes, Roboform password manager, Ultramon for multiple monitors. I'm worried that these products might think that Gomer is a separate account and not work properly. Some are paid and of course the others are installable, but will have to be set up again the way I want. Am I worrying too much?

Defender should be good, if you add Malwarebytes Antimalware (Free or paid - paid is better, of course), SuperAntiSpyware (Free), and Malwarebytes AntiExploit (Free). This gives you a more layered approach.
OK, and set them up to run and update often?

That's funny about your cat! I think hugs are permitted.

Just one thing I would be sure to have a recent backup of is your RoboForm folder, as it stores ALL your passwords. Keep this in a safe place. This folder is located here.
    Documents/My RoboForm Data
Just copy the folder "My RoboForm Data" folder to a 2nd drive, or even a usb stick. I also use RoboForm. You really don't want to lose this folder.

Thanks Mike, I do have a thumbdrive that has that file on it. I once had a hard drive crash, and was freaked out at losing those passwords especially because the files were backed up periodically on discs and I would have only lost a couple weeks of data (a lot of course for the most used files). Like everyone else, I was pretty lax about backup. That incident was a game changer.

Fortunately I was able to retrieve all of my data files from the old HD, but at the speed of a snail. Over weeks I could copy a file but some took 3 or more hours to copy. Still, I consider myself fortunate that I could get them all back again and have always had a spare HD for backup. Unfortunately, I've had to resort to WD Passport external drive with this computer and my bad habits of storing some stuff on the desktop precipitated this long discussion.

Again, I appreciate all the help you Ten Forumers are willing to give. Hugs to you too.

After you and simrick get your computer issues fixed gomer, then I would also suggest downloading a good image backup program like Macrium Reflect and do your backups at least once a month. Keep these on an external drive also. This is a Free program and works very well, more dependable than Windows backup. Here is a link for it, incase you want to check it out.

Thanks Mike for helping out with Roboform, as I use LastPass, and that saved me some research!

I am a bit stretched thin today @Gomer, so will reply on the other issues later. Thanks for your patience!
