I just did this and it works here. I deleted everything off the USB Rescue Stick for G's Laptop and then created a new one. Didn't reformat, just created a new one and it's correct. Boots like it's supposed to.

Is there a difference between deleting the files/folders on the USB Rescue Stick and reformatting in this case, since I'm led to believe that Macrium will create a partition for the rescue media when you click on 'build'?

    Ok, I tried it and booted from the usb, only to see the same thing;

    Attachment 211348

I clicked on the start button, bottom left, to boot back into Windows, but it rebooted into the rescue media instead and showed this:

    Attachment 211349

Great, I thought - then I noticed that it now said in the top bar "WinPE 10 1607", instead of "WinRE 1809"
You probably still had the pe10 files downloaded and you selected wrong option when you selected to build. Just redo it again if you want wifi otherwise it does not really matter that much.

No, MR doesn't create any partitions on rescue USB. It has to be bootable. If you recreate rescue USB it overwrites everything.

I am afraid this is incorrect. If you have a fat32 partition with data, it just writes necessary files to drive - it does not overwrite everything - just the files it needs to. Partition is just marked active as needed.

If you have an ntfs partition but unallocated space, it will create a new 1GB partition but for some reason this build fails to format it (a bug I am sure). If you format it manually as fat32 it then works fine and original ntfs partition is unaffected.

When you recreate on same USB it doesn't change anything but overwrites own files.

New Macrium Reflect Updates-image.png As you can see, all files I added before updating Rescue USB are still there, therefore it wasn't formatted or changed otherwise or they would be lost.

That is what I said. But you said earlier it overwrites everything and does not create new partitions but it does if needed. I always wipe existing drives anyway just in case.

A file can be overwritten only by file with same name. It's obvious that files other than those for Rescue are not going to be touched unless it's formatted again which MR doesn't do when recreating it. No need to format it or empty it.

Sure but I like to eliminate unecessary detritus. Takes seconds but not needed per se.

    Hi folks

latest update works just fine and decently fast

backed up a version of 1803 windows (current windows "non insider" builds with updates with a whole slew of VM's etc ) so the Windows "C" data was 122 GB. from 250 GB SSD (Most of that is downloads / vm's etc).

The whole kybosh backed up from Windows C on SSD to a USB 3 external Toshiba passport size 2TB external self powered USB3 HDD in 18 Min

Would have been done quicker If I hadn't stored download files and VM's on the "C" drive

Why people say taking backups takes too much time etc -- bonkers -- and these same people often spend hours on defragging disks or running A/V cleansing software to remove viruses from a machine when a simple restore from a clean backup wil do it in a fraction of the time.

Some people will never learn until it's too late though. Perhaps keeps some of us busy and "still in the game" in spite of "advancing years".

Anyway folks have a good evening -- no "Tuesday new build so far". 15.00 local time -- same as GMT currently.

    Cheers
