Hi there
VI edit - hideous - especially if you have to type in special characters @CountMike - I'll bet CLI and VI in cyrllic wasn't fun either!!. I also had on IBM mainframe with TSO a line editor TSO edit -- also horrible.
However some things CLI can do quickly and easily so don't dismiss it every time
for instance re-initialising and formatting disks with the very useful DISKPART. Also there are some useful scripts around for running regular jobs etc so you can automate things like backups to send to NAS systems etc.
For instance you are away from home and you want to connect to your home computer -- instead of using something hideous like teamviewer it's quite simple to set up rdp to your home computer. The trick of course in getting the IP address as these days ISP's don't dish out static ones.
Well simply every 30 mins (or whenever) get the computer to issue following command :
nslookup whatismyip.com and pipe it out to a text (txt) file.
now also email (sendmail) to yourself.
On your phone you get the file and hence the current IP (Internet IP address which is what you need) address of your home computer.
Ta Ta Teamviewer !!!! You don't need it if you can do a couple of simple commands.
But back to macrium -- is there a fix for the xml error as well when you try and save a backup[ schedule -- backup / restore themselves etc work fine though in current release (if using skippy get the patch as well)
Cheers
