That is still strange to me Mike, because my rig is always overclocked, memory & CPU and I've never had any problem with verification.
So were mine, and always worked like it should. Only changes from last backup (with verification) were new RAM and new BIOS installed, any of them could be a culprit. Can't flash old BIOS any more because of AGESA code change and old RAM is not with me any more. This BIOS has 10 slots to remember various OC steps so it's pretty easy to go back to defaults and back to OC when needed. I do mostly 1 full backup a week so not much work.

The free version of MR these days is more than adequate for day to day use imaging your Windows partition. I first bought a licence for V4 when the free version was less useful indeed on my system at the time the recovery disk was Linux based and it was difficult to find the images to restore. I use the free version on my old laptop but I continue to use the paid version on my main system. Apart from inertia there are a couple of reasons for this.

    1. Fast delta restore which can restore a recent image in just a few minutes making system restore redundant for me.
    2. Image Guardian which is an added layer of security against ransomware or accidental destruction of the images

People may also wish to use incremental backups, encryption or use the File & Folder backup facilities in the licenced editions.
    Thnx for the insight.

How is the license transfer procedure (if it exists at all), from one PC to another?

There is a three PC licence. I can't remember how much it cost though. You can transfer from one PC to another indeed I have done so. There is a procedure posted in the help on their site. https://knowledgebase.macrium.com/di...rading+your+PC

Hey guys, I have an honest question...

How many of you (give or take) bought a Macrium Reflect license & what reasons are there for one to purchase a license (versus just using the more than capable FREE edition) other than supporting the company?

I already took a look @ the MR v7 Edition comparison chart HERE and the only feature that would encourage me to jump to the Home Ed. would be the backup encryption & restore to dissimilar hardware (but I have another way of achieving the same result).

I am hesitant to purchase the license (even w/ the 20% off coupon) because coming from a Mac environment (which is still my primary OS), backup applications similar to MR -- such as SuperDuper! -- allow you to install on up too 3 Macs (or in some cases more). In contrast, the MR license is on a per PC basis. I would hope a license purchase would cover at least 3 PC in a home considering the $70 asking price.

Lastly, if I purchase a license and have to reinstall my OS (due to a BSOD or similar) or purchase a new PC, can I transfer the license over if I uninstall MR from the old PC?
I did because at the Time MR's free version was not so good, I never have had any problems with MR Paid.

I do not think so, The license should be good as long as it does not update to 7.2.XXXX

Yes, you can transfer the MR license so long as you remove the license on the previous pc first. I had to do this to transfer MR home from my laptop to my desktop.

I bought the Home version for 20% off just to support the dev's as there great program saved me so many times more than cruddy System Restore.

One question though Home lets you compress your backup. It sets it to medium. I think the free version only chose low. I changed it to high but it took a minute longer to backup. Is it worth it or is it better to leave it at medium.

Just for shits and giggles I overclocked the crap out of my system and put MR to the test and could not get it to fail.........

As for paying for the software........I do not mind paying or making a donation for good and in this case Great software.......if no one bought the program what incentive would they have to continue developement........

Free version is set to medium compression level as a default. High levels of compression take more cpu power hence more time too. The risk that something can go wrong is higher as well.
Personally I'd suggest leaving it at that unless you're really short on disk space. HDDs are dirt cheap nowadays anyhow.

Thanks. I changed it back to medium. I compared a backup from the free version set to medium and I notice only a few MB difference.

Is this 7.1.2885? I image and verify every day and have had no problems with it.

    Have to agree with that.

I also bought a 4-pack, because their software is just so good, I have to support them. :)
