Yup. Backwards compatibility is ok. It's only a problem if you have a v7.0 image and you are trying to use v6.0 to restore it.

That's the beauty of having 2 OSes or more on the same machine independent of each other. Just wipe the other drive away. All data are on dedicated hard drive.
But anyway, it also only takes about 3minutes to make one with a new WinPE download.
You cannot 100% guarantee a Macrium rescue drive built on one pc will work on another although it usually works.

Of course, testing a drive from one pc on another before you get issues would be a good plan.

    That's right.

But actually what I meant was using the Macrium Reflect program installed on one of the OSes (on the other drive) and not the USB Rescue media itself. The USB is only needed if you don't have a working OS environment to fix the drive with issues. But if you can boot up another OS on the same machine, you can use the installed Macrium program to fix the other drive.

I can tell you from experience that the MR thumb for my lappy (Surface Pro 3) and thumb for this Aurora R6 are 100% incompatible. Check both of my specs and you will see why. If similar hardware, nothing fancy, mostly generic drivers....pretty close to 100% it will work. Otherwise...........

Technically, you are 100% correct. Having multiple OS's on one machine is the exception, by far, not the norm. Adding a MR Boot Menu option is far more likely, and is why it is included by MR as an option. Again, need a machine that will at least boot from the HDD/SSD (or a non-lettered partition if the BIOS will accommodate).

Having the thumb and Boot Menu and/or non-lettered partition (least likely) is just good practice. The time to find out you need the Thumb (or DVD) is not when it's the only option.

I use the USB media a lot. But sometimes when I want it fast, I just use a Windows OS to fix another Windows. For one, the boot up is a lot faster.

I found an SSD drive that's been missing for around a year the other day.

No, they are neatly tucked away inside Mr. Alienware. All 4. Externals are in a small fireproof lockbox.
