Well not sure I agree with that statement, because every update released by MR lately, has had new updated PE files, for both the C-Drive and the recovery drive. USB stick. :)
Is WinPE changing so much ?

That's hard to answer. I would think the time it would take to research what, if any, changes would be far more than the time to just do it. But, I understand your point.

You only need the recuse media if you cannot get into Windows. I update it every time MR updates.

    Hi,

There are two ways to do this - one from Macrium Reflect boot menus that cleverly uses the installation on the C drive.

The other option is to use one used by some here is to create a small partition, copy all the files from Macrium Rescue iso, and create a boot entry. I prefer this personally as I then delete the boot files on the C drive that take up quite a bit of space. Also, if the C drive gets corrupted, the recovery files are not affected. Of course, nothing protects against drives failing, so you still need the boot drive.
Yes and you can do that for any external drive that's used for backup too.
Just create a smallish fat32 partition of say 512Mb , the rest can be and should ideally be Ntfs. Let MR create a rescue iso, mount it and copy it to your Fat32 partition.
That's all it takes for UEFI systems.

Make sure it boots and that's the end of that.

    Cheers,

I do not follow your point - I say do it even if not essential just in case. Are you saying this is bad advice?

MR patchs do often do not need an update of rescue drive, but I choose to do it to be certain.

Your 1st lines were this "It is not always essential to do it" That is why I said I don't agree, as some people could read your statement and figure its not necessary to update their recovery files or their USB stick. MR Always has NEW Updated PE files on every new update / patch !! Period. This last one WAS a Patch, and STILL needed the PE files updated. :)

Bit of hassle trying to do the differential back up...

Tried 3 times and it just froze twice, so I cancelled it, 3rd time said 55 hours and did nothing, cancelled again now running and saying 15 mins... not sure if it is my newish PC,my backup drive or Macrium now... I have changed USB port now as well...

Very odd, flying along now... down to 10 mins

Is there anything I should do to Kaspersky? I did read this can cause issues, or am I just expecting too much?

Looks to me that MR doesn't keep WinPE but just downloads it again every time a rescue USB/disk is made. I updated rescue USB only when MR update told me to and it never missed a beat.

Once you click on make a rescue disk, it tells you NEW Updates are available Josey. Then downloads them. That is what I have been saying.
