    Yes, that will be good.

    Now I have another question:

I have to replace the H: data drive with this new one, because it's failing. What's going to happen with Windows when I

    - Shut down the system
    - Remove the failing H drive
    - Replace it with the new drive, currently designated as drive T:
    - Turn the system back on and not have a data drive until I change the drive letter to H:

Is this going to mess me up because I have all my data libraries pointing to a missing drive?
Libraries don't mind. I have data on removable drives and I can run with or without. Not sure what happens if you have moved a known folder though.

When you remove the data drive letter, Windows will not like it and all your links and icons will disappear. Fear not. When you assign the new drive the old drives letter and do the restore, everything will return.

It's always been easier to me to do the restore then swap drive letters.

Thanks Steve. I've already put all the data on the new drive - it's just a matter of swapping the drive letters so Windows looks at the new drive for the data. I'll be doing it shortly. If Windows has a heart attack, I'll be back for more help!

I doubt it will have a heart attack, maybe pitch a temper tantrum though. You may have to reboot, but it will work.

Well, I changed old data drive letter H: to V: and this popped up:

So, I completely ignored that and changed new data drive letter T: to H: and windows complied. Then, I refreshed the desktop and rebooted.

The only problems I can see are, I lost my desktop icon arrangement and any custom folder icons. Other than that, everything appears to be okay. Whew!

I used to use this trick when facing this problem. Maybe the change has affected your themes:

    a) Right-click on the Desktop and choose Personalize
    b) click on Themes
    c) click on Desktop icon settings
    d) in this next box, "uncheck the box" for "Allow themes to change desktop icons"
    e) click "apply" OR "ok" and you're done

If that doesn't work, just put the tick back. Nothing to lose. Really hope that helps!

Thanks for the tip IronZorg89. Unfortunately, I've manually re-done everything to (sort of) the way I had it before, so not able to test your fix. But thanks just the same.
