I have a feeling that come Monday morning, Macrium devs will be talking with Microsoft devs!

    Hi folks
Absolutely good for MR to not make the patch for skippy generally available via automatic update - it has to be installed as a stand alone patch -- and you should only do it if you are running skippy AND ONLY ON THE SKIPPY itself.

I wouldn't install the patch on non skippy releases -- just my advice but of course YMMV.

The fix came out so quick to help users backing up skippy build -- the general user population even if they get insider builds are unlikely to try skippy. The other point is that you don't want earlier releases of MR to fail (regression testing I believe).

I've seen loads of instances where a fix to one problem has caused an earlier defect to re-appear (not with MR I hasten to add).

Don't forget though if applying the patch to update your stand alone media as well.

    Cheers
and well done to all concerned.

Good points. Patching a non-Skippy MR may cause Restore to fail. That has not been mentioned, but if messing and mucking around with NTFS internals, anything file system related is going to be affected in some manner. Maybe some brave soul will test that theory. Patch Skippy MR, backup, and do a restore....just to see. ( I have rolled-back to 18219 and froze it for the duration awaiting MS bits n' bytes.......)

    Hi there

as I believe I said keep this release ONLY on the skippy - I warned about Regression -- thanks @CountMike for testing -- saves me the bother.

I've labelled 2 versions now -- got a red coloured usb to use only with this skippy !!!

If Ms boobed or did something with the file system they are bound to fix it in next skippy or even pull this one so well done MR for not putting the patch out for general release.

Regression testing is often a part (the unglamorous part) of development but it's still necessary even though these days it's often overlooked -- how many times have we seen Banks I.T systems crash because of something like that.

    Cheers

Yes, you did, Jimbo. I was merely re-iterating it with specifics. And asking for a tester. Which Mike did. General public may not be familiar with terms like "regression testing", now we all know.

    Hi there
I've posted a warning in the Backup section on the Forum that people should only apply the patch and use on the skippy itself - for all other versions they should wait and use the normal macrium updating procedure.

I'm keeping this build though as it does seem to be snappier than the previous insider -- of course that could simply be due to the amount of data Ms collects from these builds.

    Cheers

I went through too many hoops learning to restore, so I'm going to wait for Microsoft to either correct what they did, or tell us it's a permanent thing. At that point, I'll do what's necessary. IOW, I'm proceeding with caution at this point.

Of course, if Skippy is in a vhd, you do nit need MR to back it up. A simple copy and optional zip it works.
