    Agreed...

The Web Installer is a more intelligent option (can determine the environment, select best server etc... so all good there), but if I had to jump either side, I'll go with Bree and Mike and have a portable installer... Macrium should just make sure they have the latest on their server...
Bear on mind, that the bulk of the initial download is the adk files needed to setup the Rescue Drive. On my pc, I cannot use the adk pe10 due to a bios issue, but it works fine in adk pe5.
Not only that, although the Macrium Rescue Drive is good at being used on a different pc, it does not always work. It is always better to create the drive on the pc which it is to be used on, so you can add drivers to Macrium Rescue Drive which already exist on pc - I had to do that on my AMD laptop as it would not see my second drive until I added the SATA controller to the Rescue drive. I reported this to Macrium and next release, the driver was added (great service).

In the end, I still err on side of web installer to ensure I always have latest version.

One problem with full installers is they proliferate on various websites, often without permission, and many less informed users end up installing old versions (ignoring potential malware issues).

But hey, ultimately, it just comes down to personal preference, and in the end it is moot anyway, as I doubt they will change things anyway.

I just got a notification in my inbox about my initial old post regarding Macrium. Since then I have been using the free version of Macrium very successfully and have recovered with the stick I made via the Macrium program.
I have used macrium for years, was wrong about no free program and will continue to us what works.
Just an update and thanks for listening..

why does the main Macrium Free download page only offer the ReflectDLHF.exe web installer?
You can get an offline installer by using the web installer if you want.

If you run the web installer and untick the "Run installer directly after downloading" box it downloads the offline installer v7.1.3169_reflect_setup_free_x64.exe to ~/Downloads/Macrium or wherever you choose.

The PE part (if you chose to download it in options) ends up as a zip (for example pe10_1607x64.zip) in the same download folder.

So it does - in fact ReflectDL.exe and ReflectDLHF.exe turn out to be the same file with different names.

    Code:
    C:\TEMP>fc /b /a reflectdlhf.exe macrium\reflectdl.exe
    Comparing files ReflectDLHF.exe and MACRIUM\REFLECTDL.EXE
    FC: no differences encountered
    My apologies to Macrium.
