I took your hint, uninstalled 6.1.887 and installed 5.1.5603, made rescue USB and wow it is booting, though so far I did not try backup or restore. Some confusion-- in PC it is showing, 5.1.5603 but while booting with USB when the macrium window starts to open, it shows version 6 build 887. I only downloaded ver 5 and did not downloaded PE again. The other problem is after booting with USB, there is power button on lower left side but it does not shut down, it only restart the PC then how to take out USB. I just pulled the USB when it was restarting.

What version of Win PE did you use to build the Rescue disk ? . Try version 4 for Win 7.
I tried your suggestion and USB is booting now. And as I said in the earlier post that making rescue USB with ver 5 also worked. But again the power button in rescue USB is not shutting down the PC but only restarting so how to take out USB so that it does not get damaged.

It doesn't. The USB is used to load WinPE into RAM then run and is not used afterward. You can actually disconnect the USB after booting up WinPE and the program still works.

Thanks for the information. By the way your suggession of using PE 4 was even not mentioned by the Macrium. As per Macrium PE 4 was for win 8. Great advice. Thanks again.

When I backed up my system partition within windows on same hard disk other partition, it made one image but when I backed up from USB it made three images adding 01 and 02 in the image name. Now which image to restore. I tried the first one without tag 01 and 02 but system comes to a screen afterwards again restart.

Because your USB was formatted with FAT32. A max file size for FAT32 is ~4GB so Macrium create the image in chunk of 4GB. Re-format the USB with NTFS then you'll get a single file.

The moment I posted, it struck me. Now is there any solution to restore these three images or Whether I will have to make a fresh backup after formatting with NTFS.

Hi everyone. I just joined specifically to share the solution to the same problem with my own Windows 8.1 ASUS laptop.

Regardless of trying many possible solutions, the Macrium Rescue Boot USB would not boot, or simply stall every single time and go no further.

I discovered this through much trial and error from searching online for literally hours.

Please see the two screenshots here, as this most definitely worked for me and should for you too.

For Windows 10 you should choose Windows PE 10.0 as your rescue media option...
