Windows 10: Can system restore points from Windows 7 be accessed on Windows 10?
Can system restore points from Windows 7 be accessed on Windows 10?
Hi. I'm preparing to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 sometime this weekend or next week and I have a question that I want to know before upgrading. Is it possible to create a restore point in Windows 7, upgrade to Windows 10, and be able to restore to that point in Windows 10? Let me know!
No, once you upgrade all old restore points are deleted. They wouldn't work in Windows 10 anyway. But Windows Setup backups all your old Windows installation and data in the folder C:\Windows.old Should anything goes wrong, you can return to Windows 7 from there. If you are OK and you have no problem, this folder is automatically deleted after 30 days. So don't worry about your files, the backup is taken automatically from Windows Setup before the upgrade and you have 30 days to return to Windows 7, if you need to. Go ahead. Of course it doesn't hurt if you also take your own backup of important data to another disk or USB flash drive before you start... To minimize compatibility problems you may also update all drivers before the upgrade. Then check if there is a Windows 10 driver for chipset, graphics etc and update again in Windows 10.
Thanks! I forgot about the Windows.old thing. I guess I'll start on this thing now.
Some people have encountered issues using the rollback feature to rollback to Win 7 from Win 10. To be on the safe side, use something Macrium Reflect Free to create a system image before doing the upgrade that can be used to restore your system back to the way it was. Make sure you use the utility in Macrium Reflect to create a bootable recovery disk in case your computer canno longer boot.
I created a restore point and at some time later, it disappears. After today's update for a security update for flash player, it's gone to be replaced by one for the update which is normal. I've been noticing this for a while.
...stored on my computer; the physical location (folder)?
I'm dual booting Windows 7 & 10, and when boot up Windows 7, and then back into Windows 10, the Windows 10 restore points have been deleted. I tried the fix here but it didn't work. The restore points are still being deleted. Anybody else having...
so one has to recreate that. Too bad one cannot go back.
Wanted to use a restore point because all of a sudden my Outlook 2016 is gone. Off course one cannot find this when scrolling down after hitting the left corner and hitting then "all apps",...
I like to have some kind of safety net - a reinstall is always possible but dull. Restore points are one option but I like to have several options since we know that restore points are very volatile.
For the purpose I tried AOMEI OneKey which...
