I intend to keep 365 days of backup, so I can restore to any day within the most recent 365 days, what is the best backup plan?
If you really think you need that capability, then there may be no better way - but why? You do realise that for the plan to work, both the full, and every incremental up to the chosen restore date, have to be available and undamaged? Spanning the incrementals across several backup disks sounds like a recipe for disaster to me. Will all the required incrementals be visible (ie on connected drives) at restore time?

You say this has worked for you - have you ever done a restore across 100+ image files?

Its not for me to suggest a better way, but unless you have a special reason to want to be able to revisit every day since December last year, I would suggest that having a month's worth of incrementals would be enough. If a full, plus a month of differentials would fit on one backup disk, that would be safer - a restore to any day within that month would require only two image files.

I'm sorry that I have no idea what went wrong for you. Note that I am totally unable to get this forum to display such big images nicely, and have to copy and paste them into an image viewer to see the tiny characters. Zooming in my browser (Firefox) does not achieve the wanted result. Not that you need so many lines to demonstrate the problem.

For images like these I find that you can click on one (or right-click on it and open in another tab) to see just the image. Another click will expand the image to full size and you can scroll through it.

So you can! The second click does the business - now how was I expected to discover that? Ta.
