Latest Macrium X update backup image speed is terribly slow?

Anyone take the update and tried backing up an images? I can't even use it now. The progress bars actually stop at times. Thanks for all input!

    Should I uninstall then reinstall?

When referring to Macrium Reflect it's always best to give the version number. The latest is v10.0.8366 - 4th November 2024. Is that the version you mean? If so, then a reinstall may not make much difference. This update was a full reinstall anyway. Did you restart after updating, as it says in the release notes?

    Updating To This Release
    • This update requires a full installation; patch files are not available. A Windows restart will be necessary to complete the update.

I have not yet run a backup since updating mine to v10.0.8366. I'll try it and get back to you. It's a large backup, so I'll be a while. It took nearly an hour last time....

Yes, that is the update version. It has sped up some but is not near as consistent as the previous version. Thanks!

There are lots of factors that affect the speed of imaging. In my case the limiting factor is the speed of the external USB3 HDD that I'm writing the image to. I'm 50% through the imaging and so far Task Manager has shown it to be permanently 100% active. Also, so far the speed has looked the same as v10.0.8313 that I used for the previous image.

Where are you writing the image to? Is it the same drive as you used previously?

Before update it was very fast and at a steady pace. Now it starts the image backup really slow then speeds up some and slows down again. It's so inconsistent that it makes me wonder if the backup is actually dependable or not. I'd hate to crash and not be able to restore.

Verification can reassure you that the image is good. I always have my backups set to verify after imaging. My backup has finished and just started verification (which with an external HDD can take almost as long as the imaging). The speed was steady all the way through the imaging.

What drive are you imaging to? Internal or external? Is it the same one you used before? My prime suspect for the speed fluctuations you experience would be the health of the destination drive or the reliability of its connection. Next in line for investigation would be the health of the drive being imaged.

It's the same internal ssd and I'm doing full backup images. The drive being imaged is my new ssd (C:)

I didn't know you could use verify on backup integrity also I'll have to try that.

Well, the results are in. It was a little slower this time, but nothing that cannot be explained by the speed of my USB HDD. I've noticed before that it can vary between 60MB/s to 120MB/s depending on which area of the disk is currently being written to.

(note to self: get a USB SSD to use next time )

I uninstalled and reinstalled and it seems to be back to normal now. At first on the reinstall, it said my key would not work on a different computer. The second time I opened Macrium it loaded as usual. Also it shows experation date so I guess it took the key alright. Thanks again for your help!
