It is not complicated
Cloning usually means directly from one disk/partition to another disk/partition
So if you clone C to a partition on a different disk, then clone D to that same partition, the second clone overwrites the first.
imaging usually means from a disk/partition into a file. You can store several image files on the same partition if it is big enough.
you asked for 2 files, therefore what you want is a program that will create image files.
Image file can later be restored to a disk/partition if or when desired. Also usually the image file can be mounted in some way to extract any individual files/folders .
The cloning I do is byte for byte, all the bytes on the Source drive are copied to the Destination drive, either both drives are the same size or the Destination drive is larger. Think "Dolly the Sheep" for what cloning is.
