    Macrium: Clone old internal NVMe to USB SSD, then USB SSD to new NVMe?

    I am wondering, whether I can use Macrium to clone an older, smaller NVMe drive to a new, larger one like this:

    1. Use Macrium to make a clone with the computer booted from the old NVMe drive to an external USB SSD.
    2. Shut down and replace the old NVMe with the new NVMe.
    3. ???
    4. Use Macrium to make a clone from the SSD to the NVMe.

    What do I have to do in place of “???,” in order to be able finish the job? It turns out that I cannot boot from the USB-connected external SSD. Or, is there a way in Step 1, using Macrium, to make the SDD bootable via USB?

    Can I make a bootable thumb drive somehow that has a functioning copy of Macrium Reflect on it?

    @Baeolophus

    1. Make the Macrium bootable rescue media.
    2. Make a backup of the old SSD to the external SSD.
    3. Put the new NVMe in the computer.
    4. "Boot" from the Macrium rescue media and "restore the backup, to the new NVMe.

    Here's what the bootable rescue media looks like...

    Thanks Baeolophus and Ghot! I've been wondering how to replace my SSD with a new larger one, while transferring the older drive content onto the newer....successfully. I have Macrium 7. Sounds like a plan.

    I went with @Ghot’s plan using Macrium Reflect (home edition, 30-day free trial). It worked without issues.

    Thank you Ghot. Taking the time to post the screen shots of the bootable rescue media was extremely helpful for anyone who has not previously done so. Great job!!

    I have had luck using Macrium to create a fresh backup image. Then restore that image to a portable [USB] NVMEe enclosure. Once finished, transfer the new NVMe module to the computer. Use mini partition tool to expand the C: partition if necessary.
