Why can't Macrium Image Guardin work on network shares?

They only work on physical drives, not network shares. This has been documented for a long time and I've personally tested it, always been this way

But on a technical level, why not? I'd ask Macrium but I am not a paying customer so they'd just refuse to answer and instead spam me with their copy-paste lol

Image Guardian works by manipulating file level permissions on the Reflect backups. You don't have access to that over a network share. That is something that would have to be manipulated from the local machine on which the backups are stored.

You can already protect the macrium images folder against ransomware with an antivirus including that of Microsoft.

MIG is a paid feature. If you do not have a paid version, then I do not see how you could have tested it.

Even the trial version is not necessarily a full test as not all paid features are in the trial version.

Anyway, it is a moot point if you do not have a paid version.

MIG acts as a filter on the local file system, whether that's an internal drive or a usb external one. The only way a network share can be protected is when it is being shared by a Windows PC that has Reflect installed and MIG enabled.

In the above illustration, the PC sharing the backup repository (Shared Volume) has a full install of Macrium Reflect, including MIG. A local drive is shared over the network and MIG has been enabled on that drive in the Macrium Reflect user interface.

I understand that the only Premium feature not included in the Trial version is ReDeploy.
