Because the entire Disk 2 ...IS my backup of Disk 1.
Disk 1 is 4TB, and Disk 2 is 8TB. Karen's is a tiny program that uses no resources to speak of.

And to be completely honest... Macrium's User Guide is 485 pages. MR is bloated like most other software.
I'm from the "try and use tiny un-bloated software school", where ever I can.
And like all other backup software these days... they tried to make MR do... everything.
This is what I used back in the Windows XP days... Why? Because it was simple, un-bloated and made protected backups.
If they had something like this today... I'd be using it.

    Attachment 407601

Storage is so cheap these days, I'd probably use Karen's for everything.
BUT... Macrium Reflect (paid) has Image Guardian, which protects my backed up images.
And that is the reason I use Macrium at all.

I've always used backup software, that protected it's images. I just feel that's the smart thing to do.
Unfortunately, they charge for that, these days. AND... most software is way bloated as well.

It's the same with Bitdefender paid. It has 13 modules of which I use three.
But try to find AV/firewall software these days that just does that.
I miss the old perfect Zonealarm firewall, too.

I have this theory... programmers think they will be let go if they ever stop coding.
So, they keep adding junk to everything. It's why we need such powerful computers to do simple things.

When they code software, they should make "basic" programs that you can add plugins to, if needed.
Instead they make huge ungainly programs with everything and the kitchen sink, included.
Does Macrium Reflect "Image selected disks on this computer" or "Create a File and Folder backup" do the same thing like Karen's Replicator?

I see your Disk 2 partitions are larger than your Disk 1 partitions, how do you calculate how much space each partitions should be?

Why not make Disk 2 partitions exactly the same size as Disk 1 partitions and leave the Disk 2 extra TB into a partition? Example: Disk 1 is 4TB 4 partitions, and Disk 2 is 8TB 5 partitions (Disk 2 4 partitions same size as Disk 1, Disk 2 1 partition is 4TB always empty). My understanding is Disk 1 total used space will always be same size as Disk 2 total used space.

I happen to read about freefilesync, syncbackfree and robocopy any cons about them?

What is this comment saying? Do you encounter the same problem? It seems to say the Karen's setting can only be stored in c:\users. (I saw this comment "@FestivaleOnline 6 months ago I have used Replicator for years, but I have a HUGE HUGE issue about using it for backups. After I rebuild a machine what I don't have are the replicator routines that I built. I can't double check and restore because I don't have the backup settings. Why oh why oh why can't the settings be somewhere rational and user defined? Definitely not in the c:\users location that is a general dumping ground for all sorts of temp files as well as being used as the default for mission-critical files by sloppy designers." source How To Backup Data Automatically on Windows By Karen's Replicator Free Software. - YouTube )

Can Karen's Replicator run when the folder/file (that Karen's wants to copy) is opened or in use by another software?

    @comcom

    1. I believe both are 1 to 1 copies like Karen's.
    2. I decide how big to make the partitions, by what I'm putting on them.

See how the H: and I: partitions are getting full? That's how I knew to make L: and M: ....bigger.

    3. Because I needed the extra space for the MEDIA and the SERIES partitions. Which is why I bought the 8TB.
    4. Who knows... I've never used them.
    5. Dunno... When I rebuild, I just restore my "image" to the new machine.
    6. Yes. At least it can when I'm watching a movie that's stored on Disk 1, or have something else open on Disk 1.

    @Ghot

Can Karen's auto detect new files and edited files in Disk 1 and copy Disk 1 to paste in Disk 2 instantly after a new file is created or edited file is saved in Disk 1?

Does Karen's only copy only the new files and edited files in Disk 1 or does Karen's copy the whole disk in Disk 1 to paste in Disk 2?

Does Karen's store an earlier date version of the data or only one latest version? E.g. Today is 29 Mar 2024, Karen's is auto scheduled to run once a day (runs everyday in March), can I access the Karen's 01 Mar 2024 data?

Do you use internal hard disk or external hard disk to store Karen's copy?

    Thanks

No. As I said before... you can tell it to check manually, or on a schedule.

Just the new or edited files.

Only the latest new or changed is copied.

    Internal.

Just get the program, and play around with it. It's very basic. You're over thinking this.
From it's main page... you click on Edit Settings > Edit job... then you tell it what to do.

Here... actually read what these check boxes say... they're self explanatory. ^^

The reason there's no User Manual for Karen's, is because it doesn't "need" a Users Manual. LOL
