    Back up hard drive

My Seagate/ toolkit backup drive suddenly stopped opening…list of unfamiliar errors popped up. Took it to IT guy and he said since bought in 2016, I should buy a new one…with SSD since computer drive is.

He recommended Crucial. I couldn’t figure out how to set it up without signing up for $10/mo service. It’s with IT now. Will set it up for me. Something about because it’s not a Mac but a PC, it’s more involved. (Drive info says it works with Microsoft, windows and android).I’m like ok, but I’ve never had this trouble with other back up drives. I asked if I should get a different brand. None suggested.

Once they get it going I asked if I’d encounter other issues while using it. No response

I’m waiting to hear back. Kind of dumbfounded about road block with something that should be so simple.

Pretty sure you can see my computer info. Not used to visiting forum with my phone

    I have windows 10

So to be clear, the back up DRIVE has failed (which is irrelevant to/has nothing to do with whatsoever backup software you're using)?

The $10/mo sign up is to re-setup Seagate Toolkit Backup, not on. So many other free backup options available if you're interested. Besides, most proprietary toolkits only do exactly what's already available within Windows - a waste of time, a waste of money, and a waste of computer resources (running in the background all the time chewing up CPU and memory). And Seagate .... 'nuff said.

I'm not sure what your IT guy is on about, just be a bit careful about what he wants to do. Anything about backups can be dome by the user, no need to pay anyone for anything.

Apparently my computer was corrupted by this or that. Reason back up drives were unable to complete backups. All fixed up now. Thanks all for input. R
