Cloning HDD to SSD using StarTech USB3S2SAT3CB- NO LUCK!

I am trying to replace my HDD with a Crucial CT1000MX500SSD1 using a StarTech USB3S2SAT3CB (USB 3.0 to 2.5" SATA HDD/SDD Cable w/UASP) and getting nowhere in a hurry. When I plug the USB to SATA into my Windows 10 in a USB 3.0 port the computer does not see it. It doesn’t show in the computer anywhere in the Device manager. I have connected it to two other Windows 10 computers. It didn’t show up on either of them as well.

I am a layman. However, after reading reviews about the USB3S2SAT3CB it looked like a “piece of cake.” I have also downloaded EaseUSA Disk Copy and Acronis True Copy to make the clone. The only reason that I downloaded two is that I assumed I wasn’t doing something correctly when my computuer would not identify the SSD.

Any help would be much appreciated.

What exactly are you trying to copy from the DVD/CD-Rom to SSD? If the drive is not showing but the SSD is, that means the device is no longer working or you need external power because USB is not supplying enough.

What is the model of the Old Platter drive? Really you just need to image the old drive and then use said image to clone to the new drive.Use Acronis fromhttps://www.acronis.com/en-sg/promotion/crucialhd-download/ to image.

I will check the model of the platter device. The problem is that no matter how I connect the ssd, the computer doesn't see it. I used the Startech cable via a 3.0 USB port...nothing I connected it with a power cable and and a Sata cable inside the case. The computer still didn't see it.

What does the bios show when you disconnect the old drive and connect the new SSD on the same cable? What is the mfg and model of the computer? You do not need the startech cable for what you wish to do.

I appreciate your replies. I am a reasonably intelligent layman when it comes to computers but can follow directions.

The old platter drive is a Seagate ST 3100524AS

    Computer is an HP P6-2133w

I do not know how to check "What the bios show when I disconnect the old drive and connect te new drive to the same cable."

I am only using the Startech cable because the crucial website says that it can connect the new SSD to the computer via a USB 3 port and clone the hard drive. Just following the directions. Thanks again.

To me it looks like the PCB might be faulty from new. I does happen. See if you can get a replacement.

You could try connecting the SSD directly to your PC, instead of via the USB-SATA adapter (this is what bro67 was suggesting). Assuming you have a spare SATA socket and leads, you can connect it and clone 'in place'. Before you try cloning, check that the SSD is 'visible' to Windows. If not, bring up the BIOS setup screen by hitting F10 during boot (there should be a prompt on screen showing this option before Windows loads). Somewhere in the BIOS menu you sould see the connected drives. If not shown, the SSD may be faulty.
