    System restore keeps getting disabled

Several times now the past year, I've gone in to make a restore point only to find that the system restore feature has been disabled. When I re-enable it, I discover I've lost all previous restore points.

Why would Windows keep disabling system restore?

Windows 10 Pro running on an SSD.

    Thanks

    Andy

The usual times this may happen - is after
    - a major build upgrade
    - an in-place upgrade repair install
    (same reason in both cases).

In both cases all restore points are necessarily deleted.

I have occasionally seen it disabled- probably after some other update.

So it's not something that's randomly happening, it's getting switched off after an update? Why in the world would they do that???

Not every update by any means- just a very occasional one in my experience.

After every upgrade - yes, of course all restore points are deleted; SR shouldn't be disabled, but sometimes has been in my experience.

It does it to protect the system if system files have changed then doing and old restore would put old wrong files back and screw the system

All of the above is correct. Create a restore point then reboot. If your restore point has disappeared or restore has been disabled. you have a different issue.

today my system was screwed up because of the last November cumulative update-and I've lost many files from my browsers.
I have a feeling that MS is going to fully screw up the Windows 10-If we dont do anything to protect our systems from bad updates-the result would be fatal.

You may have noticed members endlessly recommending the routine and regular use of 3rd party disk imaging.

I have also advocated the scheduled creation of System Restore points (tutorial avaialble) many times.

That makes sense. I'll keep an eye on that when I receive an update.

    Thanks!
