    How to update Macrium Reflect?

I was updating programs in my awful W10 Home OS.

When I opened Macrium Reflect it said an update was available (to v6.3.1865).
During the update process W10 prevents the "Macrium Service" from being installed (and the update gets rolled back).

So, how can I apply the update?

I suggest you update to v8- download v8 and replace your out of date program.
Note that v8 free is no longer developed, but is available and can be used.
    v8 licensed is available.

Sorry to hear your particular Win 10 is so bad. My two aren't.

Note: you've not said if you're using a free or a licensed version.

Uninstall the version of Macrium you have now, restart the computer then as stated, download Vs 8 Macrium Reflect Free Trials

This rather proves the paranoia about free version no longer being supported is rather exaggerated as it is clear that the OP has been using V6 without problems for a number of years , and did not even upgrade to V7.

Unless Windows does something drastic to break V8, I expect the free version to work quite happily for a number of years into the future.

As V8 is quite mature now, the updates for the paid versions are generally for quite obscure cases which do not affect the average user.

In simple terms, keep on using free version until one day you find you cannot. I bet that day is at least 5 years away.

@Cerberus - I merely set out the position. No paranoia on my part.

Consider- presumably if the OP uses a licensed v6, then I believe a licensed v8 would not be a free upgrade. The OP might not wish to 'downgrade' to a free version. Do you see the logic?

    Here's a link to 6.3.1835.0.0 64bit

    Code:
    https://dl.filehorse.com/win/compression-and-backup/macrium-reflect-64/Macrium-Reflect-Free-Edition-6.3.1835-(64-bit).exe?st=8gEw9PD3jlFidd4VcW8xhQ&e=1698434632&fn=reflect_setup_free_x64.exe
    I just installed it.

Suggest: Make sure that no Macrium Processes services are running (end Macrium Service via task manager) then download and run the installer.

    Anyway I get:

    Then disable update checks.

Like the others said if you're using the free version you could update to the last working free version.

Ditto on the post below this one.

Controlled Folder Access may be blocking this. If so, then you could temporarily turn off Controlled folder access to allow the install, then turn it back on and, if it gets blocked again, add the Macrium service to the allowed list.

No, don't install the Reflect v8.1 Trial, after 30 days it reverts to a restore-only version.

If you want to upgrade from your v6 then you should install Reflect Free v8.0, the Reflect Free Download Agent is still available direct from Macrium.

If your v6 is a licensed copy, then you may be eligible for a discount upgrade to v8 Home. You can check here.

    I won't worry about it

    Thanks for the replies.

Stupidly I forgot to mention that I'm using:
    • MR Free
    • W10 Home 1703 (it refused to update, the laptop is an ancient Toshiba).

I have an installer for MR Free v7.3.5672 that I downloaded a couple of years ago.
I tried this version on my main PC (W7) but I rolled back after I noticed it added extra services.

My other desktop PCs are running W7 with MR v6.3.1685.
It's worked perfectly for many years.

I also have a W10 Pro VM (which doesn't require backup images, just backup copies).

I won't worry about trying to update MR on the laptop.
I only turn it on to do Windows program updates, Linux Mint updates and then a MR backup.
