How to remove Windows Backup 'app'?

Has anyone figured out how to remove the 'Windows Backup' entry from the start menu (see screenshot)?

The app came with the recent update.

Can't find any direct entry in 'Get-AppxPackage' in PowerShell, nor any related shortcuts I see in the different start menu folder locations.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you!

Hi, I don't see this myself.
Try rt clicking it, and Open File Location if that's available- i.e. try to identify what it is.

The app came with the recent update.
Would you care to say which one?

The forum asked you to specify your build using winver. Unfortunately many ignore this. It's there to save people asking.
    My build: 19045.3324

I have now looked at this for you:
    KB5029331 Windows 10 Cumulative Update Preview Build 19045.3393 (22H2)
    - from the News Section.

    It says:
New! This update adds the Windows Backup app to your device.
    - so that's in the most recent Preview update.

    More about it here:
Windows 10 KB5029331 update introduces a new Backup app
    - possibly similar to this:
The new Windows 11 Backup App takes another cue from the Mac | Digital Trends

It's not listed in the Store, and as I choose not to receive preview updates, can't say more.
If you were to remove it, it's quite likely it would reappear at some point.
My initial thought- not worth worrying about removing it- and it's actually worth exploring.

    19045.3393

It appeared with a Windows Update that installed Tuesday.

No option to uninstall or open file location.

I did find a folder that contains 'Windows Backup' files in: C:\Windows\SystemApps\MicrosoftWindows.Client.CBS_cw5n1h2txyewy\Windows Backup

There are a few entries in the registry as well.

I know what the app is, I just don't want it in my start menu :)

    Thanks for the reply.

    Try Revo Uninstaller.

I tried to remove it on Tuesday. Pretty sure it's like the "Get Started" app.

I guess you had a look at it- does it offer anything of interest?

I just ignored it. MS has had 20 years to come up with some decent backup software.
When they "lock" it onto the start menu, it just makes me think it's another, soon to deprecated piece of carp.

I realize that's not very open minded, but after 20 years... I guess I expect the same old, same old. :/

This backup tool is really for settings and uwp apps. It is rather likec the old Windows 8 refresh option. It is not a full image backup system.

Is it of use - for me no, but others might find it handy.

Why do people get het up about deleting it. It takes virtually no disk space, uses no resourses etc.

Just ignore it and get on with life lol.

Hmm, I don't have a 'Get Started' app in the start menu.

The reason I want to remove it is I went thru and cleaned up the start menu removing all the gimmicky Microsoft apps and such with Powershell, etc only have 5 entries total - Microsoft forcing this without a way to remove the entry is just an annoyance to me now :)

If anyone figures out a way to remove 'Windows Backup' from the start menu (I don't care if the apps still 'installed'), please post!

    Thank you
