    thanks, mrc00l88

KB5030211 was almost flawless until Microsoft force installed Windows Backup app on LTSC - Neowin

needed to run the Remove-WindowsPackage powershell command to remove the windows back up app as it even installs on an Win10 LTSC 2021 version when installing KB5030211 update as noted on that Neowin article

Apparently it arrived with the latest cumulative update:

    microsofts-new-windows-backup-app-is-coming-to-windows-10-as-well

If things go as planned, it could be part of the August optional update for Windows 10 and then the regular September 2023 cumulative update for Windows 10.

Surely it will return / install with the next cumulative update?

looks like this only works with just the KB5029331 update. it won't work with newer cumulative updates such as the newly released KB5030300 preview CU, which has a slightly newer version of "UserExperience-Desktop-Package".

it definitely returned with the KB5030300 preview update.

no matter, I run this after installing KB5030300:

    Code:
    Remove-WindowsPackage -Online -PackageName "Microsoft-Windows-UserExperience-Desktop-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~10.0.19041.3516"
so this is not a "permanent" solution; gonna be another "cat & mouse" game or a "whack-a-mole" game

When a new feature is added by the Monthly Update, it's ALWAYS there because it's a cumulative update. The only way it disappears is after you start over with a new Windows release. And you can play the same game...

Removing the feature experience pack can break your settings app.
Open Settings, choose System, scroll down and click Info, a system error will appear and the settings app will close.

I removed this myself today, using the procedure noted. I found it odd that "Windows Backup" used over 4 minutes
of CPU time since it was added.
I never opened it, and I have a local account.
I guess it was doing something that was primarily beneficial to Microsoft. Why else would they add it the way they did?
Even installing it in LTSC systems?
    :rant-on
My Android phone had a pre-loaded app called "mobile services" - this was the app that periodically installed
cheap games and other rubbish - a business deal between the carrier and DT Ignite (the "service").
Similarly, Microsoft and google in general - these days, almost everything they do in Windows/Android,
    benefits themselves first

    FYI. This information was recently posted;

Overview of Windows Backup app as installed in Windows 10 and 11

Windows Backup is only available for users that log-in with a MSA account.

Q4: How can I remove Windows Backup?
Because Windows Backup is a system component, it cannot be removed. However, we will be releasing a future Windows Update that prevents Windows Backup from appearing on certain user interface (UI) screens for Azure Active Directory (AAD) or Active Directory (AD) users that run the Pro, Education, or Enterprise editions of Windows 10 or Windows 11. For example, after the future Windows update is installed, Windows Backup will not appear in the “All apps” or “Installed apps” lists.
