Macrium Reflect: Change default backup storage destination?

I've tried, but can't find any way to do what should be easily doable and totally obvious. I back my C: drive up to F:\Backups\C-Drive. That is the default destination for Reflect Home 8.1 backups on 4 of my 5 computers. But 1 insists on defaulting to F:\Backups\E-Drive. My C: drive usually gets backed up 2 or 3 times a week, my E: drive about that many times a year since there are rarely any important changes. I'm so used to not having to change the backup destination on other computers that I sometimes overlook doing it for the stubborn Reflect. Is there any way to change the default backup destination or at least set it to default to the last selected destination?

Hi, depends how you are starting your imaging. You've not said.

I will assume you're using a definition file and are creating an incremental or differential image.

To change a definition file you can edit it - example:
Macrium Reflect: Change default backup storage destination?-1.jpg

Here I right clicked the definition file and clicked Edit.

As you can see, I can change where the image files are to be stored.

Note: a useful which I've posted a number of times is to set the drive letter of the external drive late in the alphabet (as you can see in the screenshot).

Then, whatever other drives you have plugged in, that drive letter is always available.

Thanks for the getback. Sorry, I should have said what I do. These are always full backups, not incremental or differential. I just open Reflect, click on C: drive and select "Image this disk..." I tried making changes in "Alternative locations," but they won't stick.

As you are only making a full image each time (which may mean you only have one possible date to restore from rather than several, and are not taking advantage of the faster imaging offered by differential or incremental imaging) it should be simply a matter of how you specify the image parameters.

In saying that, I assume you mean you're not using a definition file and reusing that each time, so where the backup is save depends entirely on what you specify.

If you ARE using a backup definition file, then my comment above stands.

Thanks, dalchina. Guess there's no way of continuing to do backups the way I do and change the default destination.

The first time you change the backup directory, that is remembered until as such time as you change it again.

Macrium has extensive help documentation provided with the program and on line.

If you had a license, you could also use their forum.

You still have provided no information (eg. screenshot) as to exactly how you specify your backup, leaving us to guess,

Thanks for the help. I finally found a way to do what I wanted to do. Open Macrium Reflect > click on "Existing Backups" > click on "Edit." Remove anything not wanted from the destination list. The destination I wanted as default is now the only one remaining in the list. Any other destination I select in the future should appear below it.

You could move on to use MR in a more sophisticated way- full image, then a rotating set of differential images (free version) which are managed automatically by the retention rules in your definition file (see my screenshot).

To create that, simply follow the prompts when you create your first full image.

Benefits- with backup disk plugged in, rt click the appropriate definition file (see my screenshot), click Run now, Differential - and it starts.

Differential is faster to run than a full image - so if you have n differential images (as per your retention rules) you have n+ 1 images at n+ 1 different dates.

Want to change the destination? Edit the destination file.

And the drive should be always accessible if you initially set the job up having assigned a drive letter of, say, R.

There is another, possibly better way.

Click on 'Create an image of the partition(s) required....' then click 'Advanced Options' at the bottom left. Here you can create a list of preferred locations, the one at the top of the list being the default....
