    for example

    at admin cmd prompt:

    Dism /Capture-Image /ImageFile:"O:\shadow.wim" /CaptureDir:\\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy1\ /Name:Somenameyoulike

the first part tells dism to capture an image and save it to O:\shadow.wim ( you can save it to any partition and use any name for the .wim file )

    Dism /Capture-Image /ImageFile:"O:\shadow.wim"

the next part of the command tells it what directory to capture

    /CaptureDir:\\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy1\

and the name of the image can be any name you like

    /Name:Anyname

you can find out which shadow you want to capture by using shadowcopyview
ShadowCopyView - Shadow copy viewer for Windows 10/8/7/Vista

    for example

after looking at the volume, the date and the contents I decided I want to make an image of HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy1

dble click on it and you can then copy the top line to get this part

    \\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy1\

NOTE: it is important to add the backslash \

[ I normally use wimlib which I prefer for a number of reasons, but I cba explaining that, dism does the job ok ]

I have just done it and here is shadow.wim on partition O:

if you use dism the cursor will blink for a minute or two as it enumerates the capture directory, then you see it start saving.
