    Creating an Image Backup and restoring to another Drive: Possible?


    Sup there people!

    Me again!

    Basically, I bought a new NVMe drive to replace mom's current HDD, I wanna make an image or everything in that drive and then, installing the blank NVMe, to later restore that image over said drive. I would clone it, but I got no means to plug the NVMe into a USB port and clone... So this is the best idea I could come up...

    I assume this is safe and won't cause issues?

    Oh, the software I'm gonna use is Macrium Reflect Free, latest version.

    Hi, of course you can do that- you might also want to look at the numerous threads on resolving boot problems afterwards...

    If necessary you can add the appropriate driver to your Macrium PE disk.

    Check the NVME drive really is compatible with the PC first.

    Cloning old drive to new drive is easy but you need to check if you have a suitable controller driver for the NVME. You should install the nvme in pc first, and check you can see it ok. You may need an irst driver to see it.

    Once you can see it, you simply clone hdd to nmve (no need for external usb).

    Before buying, I took a look on MSI site, and seems this NVMe is compatible. It's a WD SN570 1TB drive. If it helps, in my second system spec I got my MoBo model...
    What driver do I need to get the NVMe drive working properly? This is new for me, sorry if I look ignorant in this regard... XD
    Do I install this driver before cloning or after?

    Put the NVMe drive in the PC. Boot the PC into the BIOS. Can you SEE the NVMe drive in the BIOS?
    If you can, then you won't need a driver for it.

    OH! Gotcha!
    I'll try that this next weekend then, when I bought this PC for mom I was dumb enough to miss the screws for the M2, so I got some from Amazon. They should arrive this Tuesday so I will try checking if the BIOS sees the drive.

    In case it's not seen in BIOS, how do I install said drivers? Through Windows itself?

    Will keep you informed guys!

    @cereberus or @dalchina can help with the driver if needed. I've never used NVMe drives, so I can't really help with that.

    Hello guys! Sorry for the delay!

    Good news! What I did was to image the HDD, uninstall and then add the NVMe, then booted into Macrium rescue media and deployed the image into the freshly installed NVMe. The deployment process went smooth.

    BUT, here comes the tricky part. The NVMe refused to boot, so it eventually threw me into Windows recovery options and from there I booted into safe mode. Once there I rebooted... BOOM, Went right into desktop without issues.

    Now mom has a faster machine!
