    installing backups

A few days ago i got a new windows 10 PC.with 2 drives. I had previously backed up my documents and other things to an external portable HDD. The problem is that i dont see how to copy the my documents and things from the HDD to my new computer and onto drive D on the new PC.

And how do i actually see the external HDD on the new PC

    Hi, what is preventing you?

I presume you can plug your external HDD into your new computer- is the drive recognised?
Can you then open file explorer and see your files on the external drive?

Do you know how to copy files from one drive to another?

And how do i actually see the external HDD on the new PC
What happens when you plug the drive in to your new PC?

And if nothing, what happens if you plug some other drive in for test purposes?

Yes i have copied files from the external HDD many times but in windows 7. So doing it in Windows 10 is a lot differant.

Update using file explorer i can see some of the files on the external HDD but it seems like the external HDD has stopped working.

Do you still have your old PC or the drive(s) from your old PC?

If so, does that see everything on the HDD?

On your Win 10 PC, install a copy of Hard disk Sentinel (full functional trial) and post a screenshot of what it says on its GUI (instantly) about your external HDD.

As for copying files you can open 2 instances of file explorer, for example, and drag and drop between the two... you can use 3rd party utilities or a command prompt...
