It wasn't just registering an email address though.

Where's the one year period stated?

All I could see was, "Gifts will be expired in March 31st", but it didn't explain
whether
- it meant that the gifts must be installed before 31st March
or
- it meant that the licences for the software would expire on 31st March [i.e. in 23 days time].
