Hey guys , so computer been good, this morning I disable an autodesk program via msconfig and my computer won’t start up anymore. I tried restoring to a few different points but it keeps failing. Can’t get into safe mode. Hoping I don’t have to reinstall windows. Any suggestion?

    Hi, welcome to tenforums.
I tried restoring to a few different points but it keeps failing.
    - to clarify- that's offline System Restore... do you mean:
    a. the system restore procedure did not complete successfully
    or
    b. the system restore procedure completed successfully but you have the same problem?

Do you have a previously created 3rd party disk image of at least your Windows partitions?

The routine and regular use of disk imaging is ENDLESSLY recommended here so you can restore your PC to a previous good working state- even if infected by ransomware or your system disk fails, for example.

If not, this could be a painful lesson that may encourage you to start early on next time you have a bootable Windows.

Note: it used to be the case that the registry was backed up automatically but MS disabled that a few builds ago

When did you last check your system disk?
E.g. Hard Disk Sentinel, Crystal Diskinfo (free).

    You could try:
    Force start your PC:
Start your PC, just as Windows attempts to load (spinning dots), press and hold Power Button for 5 - 10 seconds to perform a Hard Shut Down

On the third start Windows will boot into the Recovery Environment and from there you can access System Repair, Safe Mode, Command Prompt . . . etc.

Go to Troubleshoot - Advanced Options - Reset this PC
Choose to keep your files and apps

You might be able to edit the msconfig settings using offline registry editing.

msconfig stores its configuration in the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig. The sub key startupreg contains information about the (location=) registry startup entries that you disabled, the sub key startupfolder contains information about the (location=) folder startup entries.
