I was puzzled how to make another .XML definition for another backup schedule but brainstormed to actually do manual incremental backup of second disk , let it make .xml file and than scheduled it for different time and place. Will see tomorrow if and how it would work out.

This worked as planned. One backed up automatically at 9AM and other at 10AM.
Surprised that .xml file can't be made directly.

    suggestions for another backup software

Since the Free Edition of Macrium Reflect is going to be retired on 1st January 2024 are there any other suggestions / recommendations for backup software to use on our computers?

Just because Relect Free v8.0 will get no further updates after 1st January 2024 doesn't mean it won't continue to work. The licence is perpetual and unless MS make a major change in Windows that breaks it, then it will still work. MS haven't done so yet, I have one machine that's running Reflect Free v7.2 in Windows 11.

But if you wish to look for alternatives, then Hasleo, Easeus & AOMEI are possibilities. Some comparisons here:

Just to ad to this, Hasleo has made major changes and added more features since that comparison test was done, developers are very active and respond quickly to any requests or bugs. They have added a Delta Restore feature which is supposedly better than Macrium's. Very informative thread about it over at Wilders.

    New update today. v8.1.7847 - 30th January 2024

Currently attempting to download this update produces an HTTP 403 error. It is often the case that a new release takes a while to propagate out to the CDN servers. It usually becomes available within 24 hours of release.

Installed on all 5 of mine with no problems, but 2 required a reboot. Never understood why some need a reboot for major Macrium updates and some don't.

Done two of mine so far, one asked for a reboot, the other didn't. The one that required a reboot has Image Guardian enabled, the other hasn't.
