    Cloning hard disk HP all-in-one

Hello all, I'm a self-employed visiting IT support guy, been doing this for 17 years. Every week, I see something I haven't come across before - today's problem is this: my customer's Windows 10 HP all-in-one PC has a BSoD stopcode "Critical Process died". Having researched this and tried the various remedies suggested, I'm down to doing a clean install. Before doing these, I always clone the hard disk before proceeding in order to ensure my customer's data isn't lost.

The problem is this: if I try to use tools such as Aomei, HDClone or EaseUS (booted from a USB), neither the PC's mouse or keyboard will work (USB ports), meaning I can't do anything with the tools.. The mouse / keyboard work fine in Command Prompt and other windows activities (using the Repair functions from an official Windows 10 installation on a USB stick). I therefore think I need to clone the disk from the Command prompt and/or Diskpart.

Can anyone provide me with clear instruction for doing this? The guides I've seen, I find confusing. All help / comments gratefully received.

you could capture the partitions one at a time with dism, but is a bit fiddly.

easier to pop portable diskgenius on a usb stick and reach down to it from booted pe that you know works.

    Free Download DiskGenius Online

You could extract the portable version from the zip file onto a usb stick .

Boot up win10 winpe/winre/installation media. ( you could have extracted diskgenius onto the same usb or a different one)

When you have booted into winpe, Open a cmd prompt.

Type notepad ( then press enter)

When notepad pops up, click File >Save and select All Files in notepad dropdown

then you can browse to the usb stick and run Diskgenius.exe

    Can't restore Win10 - can't 'see' <windowsimagebackup>.

OK, I've got DiskGenius up and running - says it will take about 24 hours to do the clone. What I find weird is that for this app - but not the others I mentioned - the mouse and keyboard are working. WTF? Anyway, many thanks for the suggestion, I'll post again when it completes the clone.

OK, now I know why - this pc has both usb 2 and usb 3 ports, but they're not marked differently - I was plugged into the USB 2 ports. Now expecting it to complete in 45 minutes!

SIW2, many thanks for your help on this, it's very much appreciated - and as a bonus, I have a reliable new tool for the future.
