How to select Windows Backup image?

hi, with quite some effort I am able to get into 'advanced startup options' for win10. Had to 'burn' a recent Win10 iso to usb that I now can boot from. Then I manage to get into 'advanced...'. Then I manage to get to the 'restore' tab.

Now, I want to select a Windows Backup image located on one of my drives. The dialog however does not give me an option to navigate drives and folders.

My question: how can I achieve my goal to have a Windows Backup image selected by me?

    Thanks! regards, Kan

Hi, you haven't clearly stated how you created the backup image.

Today, and for a long time, people mostly use, as recommended by MS itself, 3rd party disk imaging programs which are robust, maintained and supported- unlike the legacy deprecated Backup and Restore (Windows 7), which is what I'm guessing you used.

Many times in posts where people ask about that, they have been directed to the MS statement recommending they do not use it.

Anyway, assuming you have a Backup and Restore (Windows 7) image file, have you considered searching the huge Tutorial section? This is what I found for you:

Restore Windows Backup in Windows 10

I hope that works for you.

    Kan,

    The procedure is described in
    System Image Restore - EightForumsTutorials
my ditty - Restore Windows system image - TenForums
solved System Image Recovery from WD My Passport Ultra - HP Support Forum - 5089943
System Image Restore cant see USB hard drive

The image can be on any drive but must be in a folder called WindowsImageBackup in the root of the drive
    e.g. H:\WindowsImageBackup

If it doesn't let you browse to the relevant hard drive then it might mean it does not recognise the image on it [not an unknown occurrence for this deprecated, unsupported & unreliable utility].

If it does not play ball then post an update on your experience and include

in your post because SIW2 is probably the most capable forum member in this regard.

    Best of luck,
    Denis

Are you able to boot into a windows installation on that machine ?

If not it can be done from your recovery media:

    restore from vhd with diskgenius

navigate to diskgenius from recovery media.

bootable media that already includes diskgenius...
