adding wsl home folder to windows 11 file history for backing up

I am trying to add my \\wsl.localhost\Ubuntu\home folder to windows file history for backing up. I have successfully done this for other folders by right-clicking the folder, clicking "show more options", then selecting "include in library". Unfortunately, for some reason this option is not available for this folder:

    Any suggestions?

The biggest issue is that you do not want network shares in a backup on a workstation since it is already backed up on its servet.

    Hi,
Try adding a network location shortcut in my computer & do the include in library from there.

File History saves a copy on backup of what you have on that local machine. WSL if it resides on that local machine it will be backed up also. If on a physical network share, that server should have a proper backup schedule in place and the remote workstation does not come into play.

I'm not using Backup, I'm using File History. It's going to a NAS that is backed up to another (remote) NAS as well as local hard drive.

That is a definition of a backup. You cannot do it since it is already getting backed up if WSL is on said computer that is getting backed up. If on another computer, that computer should also be getting backed up.

File History specifically only backs up your home directory (/users/username) and ignores the downloads folder by default. You can add additional folders to exclude and others to include.
