    Cannot create restore point

Thank you for the reply. Yes I've run all the checks on the hard drive also used crystal disk to check it and it checks out OK. He brought it to me because it had BSOD and he couldn't get into it. I used Blue Screen View to find the problem which was the graphics driver was corrupt. I uninstalled the driver and upgraded it to the latest one and the PC works fine now. Also when trying to get the restore fixed I found all the things in services had been disabled and enabled almost all of them, especially the ones for the system restore, but it comes up with (0x80042302) Error. I will post a pic of the error.Cannot create restore point-restore-error.png

There's a tutorial on resetting services to default.

    Repeat yet again:
I offered you two ways to specifically try fixing VSS.

You don't seem to have tried those.

You have twice been recommended to try an in-place upgrade repair install.

You don't seem to have tried that.

....This is my sons PC and he did an upgrade to Win 10 from Win 7. I don't know what the Win7 was if it was 32 or 64 bit. I wonder if it was a 32 bit system could that be the problem....
You cannot upgrade from a 32-bit install of Windows to a 64-bit Windows. If the Windows 10 it had after the upgrade is 64-bit, then so must have been the Windows 7 that was upgraded to 10.

people sometimes miss the Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider in services.
You could also try in admin cmd prompt:
    vssadmin list writers

and see if that reveals any errors.

I was not sure what version he had but with what you say it had to be a 64 bit system. Also I enabled all the services and set them to automatic that had anything to do with sys. restore. Anyway Thank you to everyone for all the help, I have fixed it so he can use it again at least, he will have to decide if he wants to keep it like that without system restore, or do the upgrade install, I am done with it. Thank you to everyone again.

I use what @essenbe posted on Win10 Pro with only one failure, it returns a message if the time set has not ended yet and can't create a new one until that happens. Each attempt to run has to be more than a day after the previous one and frequently happens after an update where Win10 has already created one. I could change that time interval but it is okay as-is.
