    Need Macrium help

    Hello.

around a week ago i made a post about Windows couldnt find my backup, even though i could see it on my external hd, i then got explained that Windows backup system sucks ass and that i should get something else instead, a few people recommended Macrium, so i ended up getting Macrium and im reading through the user guide right now, because i dont want do anything wrong (ive tryed that before and thats time consuming, when you have to look for a fix on how to make your external hd work normal again and you are not a pc expert) But anyway i saw that the first thing Macrium tells you to do is: https://updates.macrium.com/reflect/...user_guide.pdf (using the Media Rescue Builder) how much space does that take ? Because the guide doesnt show that.

Secondly would it be possible to a backup and this bootable thing on the same external hd ?

and last question for now: If i use this Media Rescue Builder should i choose: Windows boot menu or ISO file ? Im thinking Windows boot menu, but i want to be sure. Will leave scr. Shot of it here.Need Macrium help-media-rescue-builder-macrium.jpg

Making the boot disk will overwrite everything on your USB.
After that, you can add anything you like.

The Macrium boot disk uses up about 600MB.

I suggested that you learn Macrium using the TenForumsTutorial about it. Link given in

I think you should make a boot disk & should add Macrium to your boot menu.
Instructions for both are in the tutorial.

    - some by Macrium Reflect staff too.

And it has a huge help file, built in and on line.

Usual practice is to make a bootable rescue USB stick. That way you can boot and restore an image even if the hard drive has failed and been replaced. Adding it to the boot menu is convenient, but relies on the drive still being bootable. For safety, most of us make both.

The rescue media builder option to make a USB only appears after you plug in a USB.

As Try3 says, less than 600MB is required, so it makes a good use for any old small USBs you may have to hand.

I followed your link and followed this link: Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect you put for how to make a Rescue Media, but he's tutorial doesnt apply to me (its Last Updated: 19 May 2021 at 01:10 and that was before Macrium version 8), he is saying that you will get a option to make a Rescue Media the first time you start the program (i havent had that option), so i go to manually press make a Rescue Media (will leave scr shot) and when i do that i get completely different options than the guy that made the tutorial (will leave scr shot) But im assuming that i should press what is highlighted in blue ''Windows Boot Menu - Add the boot menu for the selected Windows PE version'' ?

I will make both aswell, exactly because of what you are saying and 600 mb thats not alot, i guess i will use a old USB with not so much room on for that. Thanks. But how do i do it ? Ive tryed to follow what Try3 said, but it doesnt look the same on my screen (i replied to him with all info) and i dont wanna make anymore mistakes with hard drives and spend a whole day on how to solve my mess haha.

It does not work like that (in most cases).

If usb drive is fat32 formatted, the boot files are copied to it and existing files are not deleted (unless drive is really full perhaps).

If drive is ntfs or exFat formatted with no fat32 partitions, the partition will be deleted and a new fat32 partition created.

However it is safer to assume other files may get lost so should be backed up.

Here... I removed everything BUT making the rescue media.
The big box in the middle is the only really confusing part.
Whether to choose PE or RE. I chose PE cause I don't have a Recovery partition.
If you have one, you should be able to choose: RE

Step #1.5 is where you choose PE or RE

    1. In step #1.5 click the "show more arrow" on the far right.
    2. In step #2 you choose: what you're going to put the Rescue Media... ON. Like USB stick or CD.
    3. The rest should be self explanatory.

    Need Macrium help-000000-macrium-2.png

In step #2... I highly recommend choosing either USB stick or CD.
Macrium will make either the USB stick or the CD bootable... automatically.
Just format the USB stick to FAT32, to make it acceptable to the Rescue Media Builder.

Choosing "boot menu" can come back to haunt you, if your... boot menu ever becomes corrupt,
or if your Windows drive ever dies.

If you need to convert the USB stick to MBR... here's how...

You'll have to re-initialise that USB stick as MBR instead of GPT.
    See
Somebody might also post instructions for doing it with Disk mgmt or using Diskpart commands.
    It's not a subject I know about.

    Thanks for that info.
My brain must be stuck on Windows installation disks & Acronis boot disks.

    All the best,
