Macrium error: "Recovery: Looks like Windows didn't load correctly"

I tried to Recover the latest Full Macrium Backup.

The progress bar moved to 100% I assumed that everything was going to be fine, but I got the following message:

    ----------------------
Recovery: Looks like Windows didn't load correctly.

    - Either: See Advanced Repair options
    - Or : Restart my PC [and retry the Restore]
    ----------------------

I would be grateful for any advice.

    Thanks

Just rerun the restore from the Macrium bootable media, like so...
    Don't use Rapid Restore.

Then if it doesn't boot, do this...

I assumed that I could restart to the point where I saw 3 options:

    - Win 10
    - Macrium
    - Boot from a different device [or something similar]

But these options have obviously been removed - probably by a recent Restore. [Each time I put out one fire, another two start...].

    Do I now need to:
    - Restore these options?
    or
    - Enter the BIOS and alter the boot sequence. [Something I haven't done since Win95]

It's too late now, but maybe I could have selected "See Advanced Repair options" in the on-screen Macrium error message?

Added: OK. I found it. In my Dell it's easy. Just highlight the flash drive (third on list) and click on it. No complicated moving around is needed. (And no need to remember to change back to the default sequence.)

Added2: Your first-choice options worked fine.

    Thanks

    @OldGrantonian

No, I meant "make" Macrium's bootable media... like this...

    That's exactly what I did !

I checked my journal just now:

Other Tasks > Create rescue media > Removable USB flash > Build

And the steps after that were:

    - Leave the flash drive in the hub.
    - Restart
    - Windows boots to the login screen.

IMO, that's why there are dozens of links to advice on changing the boot sequence for Macrium.

I restarted, tapped F12, and entered the Dell BIOS.

The USB flash was third in sequence. I accidentally experimentally clicked on it to see what would happen, while watching the hub lights.

    The laptop booted to Macrium.

    Thanks

Oh, I see what you're talking about.

Yeah... you need to get to the "boot menu".
Most DELLs are F12 to get to the boot menu, and F2 to enter the BIOS.

If you "have" to use the boot menu inside the BIOS for some reason...

...there should be a place where you can "change" the boot order.
There should be a way to set it until you go back and change it... and possibly a way to just pick the boot device for "one time"

I'm not familiar with a DELL BIOS, but all BIOSes have to have some method like this.
It's usually located on the Boot tab?

In the BIOS on the set it until you change it, list... you should see a list of possible boot devices, and the SSD inside the DELL will probably be at the top of the list. Temporarily change that to your Macrium USB stick. and then save that setting.
When you're done restoring, you'll need to go back in the BIOS and set that back to the SSD being the 1st boot device.

On the one time boot menu, there should also be a list of bootable devices, and in that list you just click on whatever you want to boot from, and the computer auto reboots to whatever device you clicked on.

And then there's the Boot Menu, which is outside the BIOS, and is accessed by a certain F-key determined by the manufacturer.

This is what mine looks like. IF I had my Macrium bootable USB stick plugged it, you would also see that on this list..

    This is outside the BIOS...

Btw... don't click "Enter Setup" on this list. That will take you into the BIOS.
Your USB stick will possibly show as TWO entries on this list. One starting with UEFI USB, and the other just starting with USB.
Unless it's an old computer.. pick the one that starts with UEFI USB.
Ofc, if that doesn't work, use the other USB option.

For anyone else reading this topic... here is a list of Boot Menu keys and BIOS keys for various manufacturers...

my most commonly pondered question is, does it matter how you created your system image macrium aeomi incl. windows (7) restore backup etc etc when doing an image restore does the system find the .image files and restore without the third party software used to create ie boot form wind10 .iso and have ext drive with restore folder/files on it ??
