    Backup failures

    I did backup on two laptops, and backup was unsuccessful. W11 failed in the first attempt, but offered explanation (about volume shadow issues) and instructions (mostly turning manuals to automatics). The second attempt was partially successful...one volume (encrypted) was not backed up. W10 was unsuccessful, twice, no explanation/instructions given). I was considering deleting bitlockered folder and try again.

    If you're using Windows backup software... don't.
    Even Microsoft is recommending using a 3rd party backup software, like Macrium Reflect or AOMEI Backupper, for example.

    Macrium Notes:
    1. A full OS image backup will be approx. 1/2 the size of the total "used space" on the C:\ drive.
    2. Backing up takes about 75 seconds for every 20GB of "used space" on the C:\ drive.

    Don't waste your time with Windows 10 system image backup. It does not work. I spent hours demonstrating error messages with MS.

    You need another Imaging application like Macrium.

    Microsoft have been telling us for the past four and a half years not to use their System Image Backup.

    We recommend that users use full-disk backup solutions from other vendors.

    Usual practice is to image the partition(s) required to backup and restore Windows and make the image on an external HDD. Click on that item in the task list on the left to start....

    OMG...so that's why my new external drive ( SSD 6TB) is now corrupt? Four attempts of backup destroyed it?

    @coolnewyorker,

    I hope you had not any important DATA in there ?!? Because they are gone.

    Take the time to understand how to do things correctly. Before, these kind of tools have no mercy, they'll do whatever is asked without much warning.

    If you attempted to clone you OS to the 6TB drive, you have to delete all partitions on it and create new one. Give it a Drive Letter.

    Please read the Reflect Manual, cloning disk in the wrong way can result in an instant loss of the source drive.
