Replace cloned disk not same day of cloning

Hello,If I make a clone of the whole hard disk, C & D partitions (usb connected), but cannot replace it same day. Then on the day I intend to replace it (not many days later), make a full backup image, replace the disk and restore the system with the fresh backup image, is it OK, can it work ?Answers will be appreciated.ThanksMotimWindows 10 pro, 21H1, 19043.1526

A clone will restore it back to the day the clone was made. If you havent used the pc since no problem if you have used it and want to keep some changes there is no point i doing a backup its fast safer just to reclone the drive as your doing the job twice if you then reimage

Another point, there's more than the C: and D: partition so a full clone should include more small unlettered partitions to assure the drive is bootable.

    Hello,
Thanks for all the answers. After almost 3 hours, Disk cloning finished successfully as Macrium reported. The disk was connected to the computer with usb adapter. The original disk has 2 partitions C and D. C is the system (some small partitions inside) and D is for data. When finished, in the windows file explorer listed new partitions of the cloned diskartition H system and partition I for data. (Partition H has those small partitions inside). The cloned disk is exact copy of the original, cheched. Now my questions:When I install (very soon) the cloned disk, there will be temporarily 2 windows 10 identical systems - (have first to check the clone before removing the original).1. Is it enough to select in boot menu the new 0 (zero) partition of the cloned disk ?2. After removing the original disk (or formatting it for more data), will partitions H and I (see above) will be renamed C and D as in the original ?Well, I hope I made myself clear.Answers will be appreciated.ThanksMotim.Windows 10 pro, winver 21H1, 10945.1526 x64

If you put a cloned disk in with the other you can get a signature conflict as both to windows is the same disk

Hello,Thanks for the answer.Sorry, I do not understand what is this "signature conflict".I have in the PC two identical disks, one contains the system, office, some programs, and data on another partition. The other disk contains data.If I have to remove the system disk before installing (to chk) the clone, then have to open computer twice doing some guesswork which disk to take out.
In previous post made a mistake, winver is not 19045.1526, it is 19043.1526, mistyping.Motim

Each disk is given a signature by windows so it's knows which is which with a cloned disk and the disk you cloned from in they appear as the same disk

This should help you understand: How to fix Disk Signature Collision problem in Windows 11/10

Since you used Macrium to do the clone, you will probably not have a signature collision issue.

If you cloned the disk they will have the same GUID.

Macrium is not as dumb as you think
"Note: Windows does not allow multiple disks to be online with the same MBR Disk ID or GPT GUID. For this reason, Macrium Reflect will always ensure there are no duplicates when restoring or cloning. "
