"This selected disk is too small", Trying to clone my HDD os to my SSD

Just a heads up I'm really inexperienced with computers and I may use terms that doesn't make any sense. So today my new M.2 SSD came from delivery and I installed it onto my motherboard. and got the SSD functionally working on Disk management. But now I'm trying to figure how to clone my HDD os to my SSD for faster boot up times and what not, at least that's what I think I'm suppose to do, and I'm using a program called AOMEI backupper and trying to clone the os but while doing so it's telling that "This selected disk is too small", and I'm not sure what to do could anyone help or give me advice, Thanks!

    Hello @neroful.

Is Disk1 your new SSD? If so, it’s too small (In storage). Your old Harddrive is 1000gb, the new SSD is 120GB.

Hello neroful and welcome to TF ,

Please do the following so we can see how much space your HDD is currently using to further advise you:
How to Post a Screenshot of Disk Management

It does look like the HDD is using about 1 TB, so you can't do a clone to the smaller SSD as James suggested

Depending on what's taking up so much space on the HDD, if you could move data (images, music, document, etc) to a newly created data partition - say D:, on the HDD and squeeze things on C: down so that C: and all the other boot partitions fit on the new SSD - then some cloning may be possible.

    Thanks you for the screenshot.

C: and other partitions are using 800+ GB of space on your HDD - the small 120 GB SSD can't accommodate that - see my last post.

I'm not sure how to move the images and documents, to a new partitions. I've been trying to figure out how to do it for the past new minutes now, Haha I'm kind of a beginner to this kind of stuff.

I don't know how people manage to install Windows and a few apps on a 120 GB SSD and still have a bit of breathing room. I find it challenging to do myself.

Okay, so you could reduce the size of C: by say 600 GB, then create a D: drive of size 600 GB and start copying your data files (pictures, documents, music, portable apps, etc - not installed apps) using Minitool Partition Wizard app. Then you would repeat this process to see how small you can get C: to so it and the other partitions will fit on the new SSD. If you can't get all that small enough to fit the new SSD, you will have to clean install Windows 10 onto the new SSD, then reinstall your apps.

But before you do that I would advise you to make a backup image of your HDD using Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect in case something goes wrong.

Do you have the option to return this 120 GB SSD and get a bigger SSD at this point?

@James, feel free to jump in - maybe I'm overlooking something and you have some ideas?

Yeah I could return the SSD and try to get a bigger SSD in the future, I could try your advice.

    @neroful,

What was your main reason for buying the SSD?

Do you experience HDD disk usage spikes on slowness with the HDD as I would suspect?
