Windows image restore macrium wont boot

Hi, you can indeed restore just the "C:" Windows partition in place of the Windows partition created by a clean install.

For Windows 11 please see elevenforum.com and feel free to join that.

Answers here will tend to be Win 10 focussed and may be from people without experience of '11.

Noted you have 10Prox64 under your avatar.

I am unsure if you are in fact saying your image is of Win 10, but you are fresh installing Win 11.
If it is Win 10, then first clean install '10.

Yes, if you clean install Win 11 you can restore the image of the Windows (11) partition in place of the newly created Windows partition as I said. You may find automatic repair kicks in when you restart. If that fails, try Startup Repair.

Yes, that should work. I did much the same to migrate the Legacy/MBR install of Windows 10 from my System One below to a new UEFI/GPT machine, in preparation for subsequently upgrading it to Windows 11. I replaced the clean install's C: partition with the one from my Macrium image. That new machine is now System One in my specs over on Eleven Forum.

You may need to, as I had to, run Reflect's 'Fix Windows boot problems' too after restoring the C: partition.

So i have done the deed.
Not working straight out the box.
Checked boot up to review loaded drives.
Ended up at BS recovery.

It sees the onstall but 2nd page no drives. Visible.

Tried diskpart and failing on bcd /export c:\.....
Im doing tgis from memory overall it failed.
I then checked diskpart and it looks like the boot partion is missing.

I am wonderimg if the EFI volume is missing. Im struggling.
The core issue and i pisted in win11forum, my drive with my core licensed software has gone down. Whilst i can get most downloada some are huge and 2 will charge me for the additional bandwidth. Hence my resilenve in not relying on a fresh install which takes around 5 days on off of installing and several more in tweaking preferences etc.
As a thought i know the image restoring works.
Is there anything i can do with the raw hard drive ie format delete partitins etc before restoring the disk image?

Ive reinstalled win11 from m/s installation.
Deleted formatted and created disk with only the os drive only.
All working so know disk is good.
As suspected press f7 at boot and can see the efi msr partition and the windows partition.

So i really need guidance on how to restore the macrium reflect image file on the working oa drive please.

The image backup was working fine so Im failing to understand why its not booting.
I think ita missing the msr or efi partition
..starting to get out of my comfort zone and knowledge base.
In turn struggling to index solutions.

This shouldn't be very hard- I've done it with Win 10.

a. Clean install Win 11 (on your case).

b. Boot your PC from Macrium bootable disk and connect your external disk with image file.

c. Browse to image file.

d. Drag ONLY the Windows partition to ONLY the Windows partition is restored.

Disconnect external drives

Reboot.

Yes that's the issue here.

The repair in macrium is not working. That's why I posted the screenshot.
Sorry I just cant embed on mobile from what i can see. Have checked.
When repairing it sees the image and drive on the 1st step to repair boot in macrium.
Then the second step. The install drive does not and will not show up or poll.
That is the core issue. I cannot seem to get the partition active.






Whilst I appreciate the BIOS boot screen is showing a different boot manager - when I did this last night prior to this screenshot - the m1 ws showing as the boot manager and no other drives connected.

It looks as if you're using an image of Win 10 from the label.. I thought you said everything is Win 11?

And your Macrium boot disk seems to have been created under Win 10.

If dealing with '11, I would make a new one.

If you are really clean installing Win 11 and restoring an image of a Windows partition from a Win 11 installation, then have you tried booting from your Win 11 installation medium and running Startup Repair?
