is Macrium Reflect best software to copy ssd and recovery partition

    Hi,

I have a msi laptop which i would like to make a copy of the ssd and its recovery partition.I am not interested in copying the installed windows that is running, but really the recovery partition so that windows can be reinstalled from it,as i am wanting to install the full version win 10 PRO [currently running win 10 HOME] from CD that will not have the other softwares thatcome with the laptop.
Will Macrium Reflect do a copy of the ssd on an MSI laptop to an external disk and then be able to copy it back to the original ssd on an MSI laptop where the original ssd will be the same as when new with the recovery partition intact?

    thanks in advance

MSI appear to be unusual in having a dedicated recovery partition for reinstalling Windows. Normally I would be recommending Macrium, but in this case it may be better to use the tools MSI provide themselves for this purpose. See if you have their Burnrecovery tool.

The main function of "MSI Burnrecovery " is help user to create the system recovery media with the data inside the system recovery partition. Besides, Burnrecovery supports "DVD", "USB Flash Drive" or "ISO Image". The recovery media can be used as a recovery tool when the recovery partition area cannot be used or replaced with a new system storage.

MSI recommends all users should create system backup by Burnrecovery tool。The recovery media can help you recover your system in most cases.

i dont seem to have their burnrecovery tool.Have created the recovery disk on a usb via the reset link through,it only took about 17gigs according to the properties of the usb stick. How does that contain the whole of windows ?? I am guessing that it will not install the recovery partitions that have been there since new? My existing partitions are :
    1) 300mb Healthy (EFI System Partition)
    2) Windows (C:) NTFS (Bitlocker Encrypted) Healthy (Boot,Page,Crash Dump,Basic Data Partition)
    3) 900mb Healthy (Recovery Partition)
    4) 21.18gb Healthy (Recovery Partition)

    thanks for the replies

It sounds like you used the imaging program ( macrium in this case) to image the os partitions and not the 21gb recovery partition.

There is probably a way to include the 21gb recovery partition at the same time.

A macrium user should be able to explain how.

Macrium Reflect will image the recovery partition, all the partition boxes are ticked by default.

The Recovery partition is colour coded Red, was on mine anyway.

    4) in your case 21.18 GB.

Image the lot, it is a simple as that.

The recovery partition will indeed contain the Original version of Windows and all the MSI specific stuff, that will include essential system drivers as well as a proportion of bloatware.

You can uninstall any bloatware later, it is no big deal.

Later on after that you do the same thing, Image all the partitions, then that will be a snapshot of the position at the time.
