Macrium Reflect Rescue Media Issue (WinPE WIM)

    Hi everyone,

So, last week, I finally upgraded from Win7 to Win10 and everything seems to be going smoothly... apart from the very first thing I did, which involved installing Macrium Reflect and creating Rescue Media.

A few days later, I discovered that the USB drive used to save the Rescue Media was faulty. I didn’t think it would be an issue to create another copy on a new USB drive, but now Macrium Reflect keeps showing the following error messages whenever I try to do so:

    “WIM file not found”

“Failed to generate WinPE WIM: Failed to create the staging area”

I tried disabling antivirus but no luck. I also removed the Macrium Reflect boot menu option but I'm still having problems creating a new copy.

If anyone has any ideas on how to resolve this, it'd be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

    upgraded from Win7 to Win10
    1. Take a look in the Programdata folder, probably needs deleting the macrium stuff.
    Also clear "%systemdrive%\boot\macrium\WinREFiles"

    2. check your new (win10) winre.wim
    from an admin cmd prompt:
    reagentc /info

Okay, just to clear, I have a brand new set-up, so it wasn't just the OS I upgraded.

    1) Okay, I found the folder but what should I be looking for? I've enclosed a screenshot.

    2) This didn't work. I just got the following;

This command can only be executed from an elevated command prompt.

    REAGENTC.EXE: Operation failed: 5

    REAGENTC.EXE: An error has occurred.

You need to use an admin cmd prompt.

If the recovery sequence isnt set up, then macrium ( or anything else) wont be able to find winre.wim So you either need to fix that, or dowload the winpe stuff via macrium interface.

delete it. That is the staging area it is having trouble with. If you find you cant delete the mount folder part, then it could be there is a botched mount. If so you could point dism++ at it ( File>Add Path) and browse to it

and see if it offers to repair the mount, then you can unmount it (File>Unmount Image) after it has been repaired.

Strange as I previously ran cmd prompt in the admin account. Instead, I ran Powershell and it worked this time:

    PS C:\windows\system32> reagentc /info
Windows Recovery Environment (Windows RE) and system reset configuration
    Information:

    Windows RE status: Enabled
    Windows RE location: \\?\GLOBALROOT\device\harddisk1\partition3\Recovery\WindowsRE
Boot Configuration Data (BCD) identifier: 68b375d3-499e-11ec-9802-fc3497979677
    Recovery image location:
    Recovery image index: 0
    Custom image location:
    Custom image index: 0

    REAGENTC.EXE: Operation Successful.

The entire folder was successfully deleted but, after restarting, the problem still occurs.

Try using the RE WIM option. Your PE files may be corrupt.

    Hi everyone,

After discussing this with a good contact, I ended up completely uninstalling Macrium Reflect, restarting the system and reinstalling it. It worked and I now have the Rescue Media on my USB drive.

We also ran a few system checks on the new PC and everything is okay.

steve108, you're now on my ignore list.

    Cheers.
