MediaCreationTool21H2 causes mass storage device to lose data and lose

today I plugged in a usb 32 gb storage device, and when I used media creation tool 21H2, it choose the wrong device, the D: Drive, which is a mass storage device. Even more strange, when it completed, it told me it needed to be formatted before use. What's even more strange that it now only hold 32 GB of data, and the mass storage of 4 TB is gone, wiped. I need to recover the important data on it, like it's there somewhere, just not being used. The entire Media Creation Tool is worthless anyway, my pc won't reboot with it, and I can't use system recovery or system restore due to a bug on my main Hard Drive.

So, how do I recover my files? And your saying I can't use it to create a windows Key to install windows with? Cause I can't system restore or system recover the normal way

Perhaps you didn't notice the prompts (around option 8), or chose the wrong option. No one has ever before said 'it's worthless'.

Perhaps you used it hoping it would do something it simply doesn't?

The tool itself does not help your PC to reboot.
It creates a bootable medium e.g. a flash drive or DVD - and you then use THAT when booting your PC to install Windows or effect certain basic repairs- System Restore (offline), command prompt (offline), startup repair...

I'm guessing what you've done is make your 'D:' drive a bootable Win 10 drive now- I wouldn't expect anything to be recoverable.

Damn, that's too much. All my special files such as things people created for me, my dreams, my goals, my aspirations, my games, my mods, everything custom build was in that drive, and I had no means to create a backup.

Whelp, I'm screwed, I would kill myself now, since 1) I don't watch movies or play my games anymore 2) all my hard work and dreams are gone. T_T. I have nothing to live for anymore. So I might as well DIE.

I would assume it does a quick format when creating it as a bootable medium.
Only part of your drive will have been overwritten.

Assuming your 4Gb drive is a HDD, you have a chance of using recovery software to scan your disk to see what may be recoverable. Given it's a big drive, that could be time consuming.

You could start with Recuva (free) and see what you find.

Ok, and how would I recover the files overwritten onto another drive? All my other drives are full atm, thus, I cannot recover them now. It's a 4TB HDD tho.

So I partitioned at least 2000 GB of the drive, but now I can't partition the rest, it's locked out, and I cannot do anything other than delete the drive or reformat it in disk management. Recuva doesn't recognize the drive, as it's a RAW type. Now what do I do?

So, I tried some programs for professional data recovery, but they are paid programs (all of them) and want money to recover my lost drive info. And, what's worse, most of the files are not named, so I'll have to scour through each and rename them accordingly. Seeing that there was 4 TB of used data, that's a lot of files to rename! I might as well try, but I don't expect much results or to find all my missing files, there's also unrecoverable raw files that the program doesn't understand what it is.

You need a "Solid" partition recovery program and a qualified technician in data recovery.

If Partition recovery fails. there are also File recovery software that can be used to recover files.

At the moment if you have not performed any other partitioning or repair options on the drive an left it as "is" after the accident.

This is still reversible / recoverable.
