The message could indicate that the bcd entry is pointing in the wrong direction.

So fix that to start with using bcdboot command. To add the drivers, it is simple with dism++ as you already used it.

Copy the dism++ folder to your macrium usb stick. Copy the folder of irst drivers to the macrium usb stick.

Then when you boot up the macrium media, you can navigate down to the usb stick and run dism++ from there.

Dism++ should find any windows installations and list them in the top pane.

Click the os you want to work on to highlight it in blue.

    Click "open session"

Then click Drivers in the left pane

    Click ADD button

Browse to the irst drivers folder on the usb stick and you should see them being added, then a success message

    Now you can close dism++.
OK, I added the drivers through DISM just in case, but on rebooting, it still takes me straight to a VERY brief 'Preparing Automatic Repair' screen and then immediately to a 'select keyboard layout' screen which takes me to the 'choose an option' screen with 'troubleshoot' and 'turn off your PC'

How would I go about trying this bcdboot command...?

    bcdboot windowspartitionletter:\windows

    e.g.

    bcdboot e:\windows

Perhaps you need to fix the os letter as well. Win10 will often figure out it has been moved, but maybe not in this case.

You had better use the 1904v3.iso I posted earlier. It contains lots of useful stuff, including nt6repair which you need for this task.

Select the sick windows partition in the dropdown and click FIX

OK, did the 'fix OS drive letter' thing in NT6 on your boot media and it left me sitting in a Command Prompt?

Do I run that BCDboot command from your boot media, or from the Command Prompt in the Recovery Environment on the hard drive?

Yes, it should say completed successfully and cmd prompt stays there so you can see that message.
I have just made x64 version in exe format of nt6repair - in case somebody needs it. nt6repairv10x64.zip

You can use the autobootrepair in nt6repair, but you need a drive letter for the system partition ( esp partition).

If it isnt already showing you can add a drive letter with diskpart

    cmd prompt:
    diskpart
    lis dis
sel dis ( whatever number the nvme is)
    lis par
sel par ( whatever number the esp is)
    ass letter=z
    exi

With just fixing the OS drive letter it still gives me an inaccessible boot device error. If I go into the Command Prompt from the Recovery Console during that boot and run DISKPART, it tells me there are no disks...?

I can see them from the Macrium Rescue USB, yes (though I have to load the drivers as the Macrium USB boots)

    - - - Updated - - -

OK, did another Redeploy but selected drivers in a slightly different way....far fewer errors this time, but there was still one.

New error code on boot now though, 'page fault' in 'iaStorAfs.sys' ...?

If the following are true, it should work:
    1. the boot files have been correctly created on the esp partition
    2. the bcd entry is pointing at the os partition
    3. The restored files on the os partition are not corrupt
    4. Windows on the os partition knows where it is
    5. Any necessary drivers have been integrated into the os image

You have made multiple attempts at installing win10 and then restoring from .mrimg files. It is hard to say at this point what has gone wrong.

I wouldnt have done it that way.

    1. I assume so....my fresh install of Win10 boots fine before I try and restore it?
    2. No idea...? I tried your 'fix' command on your boot media...?
    3. As far as I know they aren't corrupt....Macrium tells me the restore completes successfully and I had done a ChkDsk on the old disk before I had made the restore image?
    4. Windows on the os partition knows where it is - Not sure what you mean by this?
    5. I integrated them using DISM as you said AND by trying to add them through Macrium's ReDeploy option...?
