Uh ohimage on my external drive is corrupt
If macrium has a "skip bad sectors" thing, best select that.it may be safer to use the bootable Macrium rescue USB to make the image

The old laptop is dying in the sense the video card is failing as there are nonstop artifacts on the screen whether plugged into an external monitor, etc - the hard drive in it is perfectly healthy and Windows boots fine on it. In fact, the drive in the 'bad' laptop is a only-a-few-months-old Crucial MX500 SSD.

Why not transplant the crucial mx500 disk into the other machine? Oh I see she wants use the nvme disk in the new machine.
In that situation, I would have done os migration which saves time. Reading from the crucial ssd and writing to the nvme should be pretty quick.
Diskgenius is very good for os migration.

Well, she wouldn't care what drive was used for the OS, but I wanted to keep it as it was from the factory, i.e. the NVME drive as the OS drive and the SATA SSD that is in it as a Data drive.
I didn't want to swap drives because again, brand new laptop, and being a modern laptop...no screws....just those stupid 'almost 100% likely you'll break some' fragile clips, and I didn't want to void the warranty. :/

Look on the bright side - you have learned about integrating drivers to a wim, so it has been a worthwhile experience.
That corrupt image is a pain though.

WELL, very pissed....spent all that time letting Macrium make another image AND telling Macrium to verify it and the image 'successfully completed' but verification failed...
Tried to use the Rescue USB from Macrium to load the image anyway, just to see what would happen and it STILL says it's corrupt.....would could be wrong here???
I can try making yet another stupid image tomorrow on a different external hard drive maybe? See if that does anything? But that's going to take another 2 hours and I'll be gone all morning...

You seem convinced the source disk is fine.
Another possibility is the disk you are storing the image on. Did you run chkdsk on the storage disk?
If I understood correctly, you are planning on restoring only the os partition to the nvme. Are you making an image of only the os partition?
Is there anything you can exclude from the image - a big folder of cat pictures, or a couple of whopping iso files on the os partition etc. I often exclude stuff that isnt needed by the os, it can make quite a difference. You need a different imaging program to do exclusions.

Well, I know the source disk is fine in terms of SMART diagnostics. I'll run a chkdsk on it. I might cut out the imaging and remove the SSD from old laptop and just put it in an enclosure and plug it in directly to the new laptop?

OK - update, SMART diagnostics show the drive is OK....it's down to 88% overall health, which seems low considering how new it is, but hell knows what she was doing with her computer in terms of moving files around. BUT, CrystalDiskInfo says it's in 'Good' health.
I did run a ChkDsk on it and that did say it has errors, so running that now. Once that completes, plan is to take the SSD out of the old laptop, put it in an enclosure connected directly to the new laptop....bot into the Macrium Rescue USB, use that to make an image of the old drive directly to the empty 1TB SSD 'Data' drive in the new laptop.
Because the restores failed last night, I have to reinstall Windows AGAIN so I have a functioning Win10 install on it AGAIN before I can reboot back into the Macrium USB and try restoring the image of the C:/ drive from the new image back onto the new laptop's NVME drive...
